Can you run dash and component together?

Would it work and it be overkill to have dash speakers and component 6.5 with a tweeter in the front doors with a crossover?

Convert, for now.
Engine
small
Really is person dependant, one you could purchase componets, hook up everything, run and tape speaker/tweeter up in dash/door and see if it's enough for you...not enough, then you can purchase 3.5" if you want more.
Some like alot of highs, some could be fine with one set of 25mm tweeters, so it's really user dependant. But either would work, many do coax and 3.5" in door, really same thing as components.

ok so a 3.5 in dash and 6.5 in door really is equivalent to 3.5 in dash, 6.5 in door plus a tweeter.
thanks

I would but thats just me. BMWs do it have a lows, mids, and tweets. I plan on doing it because i have a single cab and the speakers behind the seats are useless once i get subs back there.

There's a big difference in a true 3 way set with a midbass, midrange and tweeter.
Putting in a 6.5" component set plus a 3.5 in the dash is just a pair of midranges and a tweeter.....whole different ballgame
To make it work you're gonna need some sort of processing or amps with built in filters. You can't cross the 3.5 like you can the 6.5.
You're gonna need to bandpass the 3.5

That gives me a headache. I will stick with a transistor radio.

If you are keeping the dash (3.5s) speakers running off the OE amp, you'll be fine. You won't need any additional filters for them. They are crossed at the OE amp. Your biggest concern will be powering the comps in the doors. You'll want an aftermarket amp for that. There is no full-range signal in the doors (assuming you have the Alpine system).
