I just ran into this same crap today on my 2015 2500. Got new tires today and they wouldn't align it due to the nuts being welded. I had maintenance services done on itt recently and they welded the nuts while it was in there. I thought they were going to put a new drag link on. Should have paid more attention when I got the paperwork when I picked the truck up. With a work provided truck, I don't drive mine often. I have noticed the steering wheel being off center recently. I was able to get it squeezed in for an alignment at the dealer this afternoon. It's still there. From all the research I'm seeing, aren't they supposed to replace the drag link now and realign at no expense to the customer. I called after my research and they say welding is the appropriate fix and if I wanted a new drag link it would be at my expense. I asked if they grind the welds to be able to center the steering wheel and he said they didn't. I said I can't get a full alignment with the nuts welded. Seemed to **** him off that I was trying to get answers on it. Welding the nuts is a ******** fix.

Long story short Stellantis had a bulletin to replace the drag link W/ jam nuts on the older models that had the nuts welded, you cannot cut the weld and reweld it after an alignment due to weakness in the metal to reweld it again, your dealer should have known about this, just being lazy as usual. I'll look it up and show you the bulletin.

Here's what it looks like after the alignment. Ridiculous this is what Ram is having dealers do on an adjustable part. They did welding on it today. I think they did grind them down then reweld.

Maybe you should get a new link and find an independent shop to install and alignment.

Skip the dealer and associated b s stresss that is added from dealing with those liars.

Any time I can avoid the dealer is worth it , even if it costs a bit more . Plus it lessens the chance of unwanted police interaction, just in case one was to snap.
