First, I know that there was a recall regarding the stems back in 2022. I had brought in my truck, they measured them and found them to meet specifications. That does not mean they won't fail in the future. So has anyone faced this issue.

I rotate my tires every 5k due to the fact that it is a dually. It helps with getting the best wear out of a set (6 tires). I have 175k on my truck and before my wife was going to take our fifth wheel on an extended trip, I had rotated the tires for her. All was fine, but on the way back she had the scare of her life. While driving down the highway, she felt a tire had gone flat. She pulled over at a rest stop and checked the tires. No flat. She continued on and kept hearing the sound. Then out of the blue, the front passenger tire just flew off the truck. Thankfully, the trailer stabilized the truck and she was able to get over to the side of the road with no serious issues. Upon looking at the rotor, all the stems were sheared off. There was significant damage to the rotor and caliper. After unsuccessfully dealing with roadside assistance, she was able to get a tow and got a hotel for the night.
The next day, she was working with a mechanic to get it fixed and back on the road. Upon examination, it was discovered that all the tire lug nuts were loose and could be removed by hand. All this was documented on video. The first thought was that the tech who did the rotation did not torque the lug nuts. So when my wife made it home, we took the truck back to the dealer. They checked the truck and determined it was not a technicians fault, but stretched stems. The recall for the stems was closed, so the dealership would not cover replacing them. They did cover the cost of the repair, but then charged us for replacing the lost tire and replacing the stems on the rest of the tires which was the cause of the accident to begin with.
