Phone calls made through CarPlay have suddenly become unintelligible, regardless of whether wireless or wired, with both of our iPhones. We can hear better than others can hear us. Calls made strictly on bluetooth are fine. Anyone else have this problem or have an idea?

Playing music from my iPhone is fine.

I have also found calls made with CarPlay bad. The sound/reception is awful. Trouble is, if CarPlay is enabled, you cannot use the “normal”” route to make calls. The phone icon is replaced with the CarPlay icon!
Or am I doing something wrong? I actually disconnect CarPlay on my phone unless I need to use it. That way, all the trucks stuff works!
CarPlay is convenient yes but as I don’t like Siri either you can’t use it without.

PS. Both our phones are iPhone 13s. This new truck is wireless, my 21 you had to plug in so it was a breeze to just pull the plug and go back to non CarPlay. Wireless, not so easy.

I have not used my phone in a few weeks in my truck, with that said there was an update to my 2025 Bighorn 8.4 screen. I wonder if it has anything to do with the new update. I use CarPlay all the time when I am running around town, but get very few calls.

When a system problem manifests quickly it is often the result of an update or a newly-installed app that is conflicting with everything. Since two phones are wonky it leads me to believe it might be the former. Try forgetting the phones on the radio and eliminate the paired data on the phone. I would check for CarPlay updates and any others for your iPhone, disconnect the battery from your truck for a bit, then re-pair one phone and see if that fixes it all. If that doesn't work, or if you want to really go the distance on the first attempt remove all other apps on phone and try everything else before loading apps on. If it works load one app at a time and test CarPlay in between each addition.

Good luck.

Mine works fine. Just made 2 phone calls with the wife while waiting on her and both sound fine and act normal. I’m using a 16 Pro Max and a 19 Laramie Longhorn with the 12 inch screen. Everything updated to the latest and greatest.

Thanks everyone. Still a problem. I updated my phone (although they both work fine in our other car), and deleted it in truck and re-added it. My truck software is up to date. I have not tried uninstalling anything or disconnecting the battery, maybe later today. But I've made an appt with the dealer in a couple weeks.

Right now I have to turn off CarPlay in Device Manager to make calls via bluetooth, but then it rarely wants to reconnect when I need maps. (I've previously posted about how finicky it was about connecting, sometimes it does fine and other times it won't connect for anything. It's been fine lately though until I've had to disconnect it manually.)

Finally an update on this. After 4 tries over two months I finally got someone at the dealership to look at it. He was able to easily duplicate the issue and contacted Stellantis engineering. Within a few hours he had a response that they had identified the problem, and an over the air update within the next week fixed the problem.
