So I’ve read A LOT of catch can threads. They aren’t new to me but I’ve never had a catch can before. I couldn’t really found anything where people talked about using them in the winter freezing months. I know that they will fill up quicker because of the condensation that forms within the engine. How much quicker? I drive about 260 miles a week, mostly interstate/highway. What about them freezing up?...it was -21F yesterday morning. That was an extreme….it’s usually about 15-20F. Does the media freeze up and block it? Lastly, should I even bother at this point? I have about 23,000 miles on my stock truck. I’ll keep it only to about 100,000 miles before I’ll trade it in on a new one. FYI….I change my own oil, rotate my own tires, change my on brakes, etc.

The cans rarely ever freeze up. The media is stainless mesh so that won't freeze, but the captured fluid can freeze if it get s cold enough but at the same time it's under the hood so once the engine warms up the can thaws out and you can empty it. For mine I get about twice the amount in my can during the winter so I have to empty it twice as often.

And remember there's some oil and gas mixed in. I run one and haven't had any freezing and i live in iowa where -20f isn't rare in the wee hours of the night and morning and sometimes the day.

BTW, sorry about starting another catch can thread. I know that's a very touchy subject in the auto forums.

Only thing to apologize for is posting 4th gen material in the 2nd gen section :D

But the reason for ecoboost his being crazy about them is because boost. Boost applications run higher cylinder pressures and this pushes more exhaust/fuel vapor past the piston rings than traditionally. However, from what I've seen the Hemi guys seem to be crazy about em as well because yall have a higher compression ratio than us magnum guys. I'm assuming this has the same effect that boost applications have.

Several of us here have em (myself Dodgedude94) and love em. I'm working on a boost project myself so it's going to be required anyways.

LOL....I was wondering why I couldn't find it in the General Discussion in the 4th Generation! That's the first time I've done that. Now I need to repost there! :doh2:

Very true about the boost. It was that and the 2,000 psi direct injection.

Didn't know they were direct injection...interesting.

Could always get a mod to simply move it too

Thanks guys. I think I'm going to try one out. I've been curious about one for a few yrs. Back when I bought my 2013 F150 Ecoboost the guys were crazy serious about getting catch cans on those and you had to buy 2 of them!

I'm going to buy this UPR one.

Shameless plug but I'm selling the same can with some upgraded hoses if you can wait 10 days for me to ship it to you (I'm out of town at work)
