I was on a job that took part in Vehicle experiments
such as Self Driving Vehicles, ABS Systems, those claws that reach out & grab those 3* gallon trash cans that, but we were testing claws that would reach out & grab heavy duty trash bags, without the plastic trash cans. We also experimented with heavy equipment that was operated remotely, for clearing snow or mud from the road, when there was a chance of another slide.

All that was sort of interesting, but they gave me a 10 wheel truck that cleans out storm drains & they had installed the Damn Warning System on that truck, i constantly had buzzers going off & brakes being applied
The truck had a 13 speed Fuller or RoadRanger transmission in it.
It would have been just as bad if it had an Allison 6 speed auto in it

As you can see, this type of machine was a handful to work with & they put those Warning Sensors on it also

As for me, I read and post using a computer. NOT my TRUCK!

As for the "new" electronic features that came on my truck:
- I have turned off Parksense, I am tired of getting whiplash when the brakes slam on for a bush.
- Android Auto is disabled because it keeps switching to my phone when I want to listen to the FM radio, which is most of what I listen to.
- Ram cant get the one feature I want to work: the trailer reverse steering control, which came with the towing package.
- I do like the rear camera and 8 inch screen for lining up the trailer hitch.
- I don't use the on screen controls for AC or much of anything else, and I don't like how I have to dive deep into on screen menus to adjust the tone on the radio and the A/C.
- I use bluetooth and the truck's microphone and speakers during phone calls, but certainly not the truck's voice command or phone menu functions, which don't recognize anyone in my family's voice. Its so bad as to be comical.

I didn't order smart cruise control, Navigation, lane assist, or much of anything else. I already own a GPS designed for RVs which does use my phone's Hotspot function to get weather and traffic updates and it has its own speaker.
My point still remains, your using technology, well actually I was asking Skat. But technology gets better, not worse...why, because consumers demand it to be easier.
Hate to say it but the generations are getting lazier, they wouldn't have a clue on how to pump the skinny pedal so the carb can set the choke. :)

Too lazy to push a clutch pedal, too lazy to get out of the truck to hitch the trailer ! And way too stupid to stay off the phone when driving, let alone staying off the phone when working !

I agree! We should all pull the Clydesdale's out of the barn and hitch em up to our uncovered carriage. All this new tech is making people lazy, stupid, soft, and impatient!!!

Goose, I use a desktop computer, I use my phone to talk or text, rare occasion watch some you tube but that's it. I hate Apps, the one app I'm required to use by the company is a complete waste of time. The App truck inspections are "useless", they never fix anything until
they want to! If it is not a light ( fleet vehicle DOT rules ) or something that actually requires the truck to run, they don't generally fix it. All they care about is not getting sued. They won't even fix the A/C to keep people from falling asleep in 90 degree heat while driving.

What do we need a crank position sensor for? The crank is not going anywhere except spin around like it's suppossed to ? it's not going to change ! Pretty much everybody has to needlessly change one of these ! Not to mention they are always in a hard to access place!

Tire pressure sensors, Do we really need these to see you have a soft tire? Maybe if your in the not so swift segment, however having said that, if your in that group the error won't necessarily trigger you into action.

The list goes on, how much of this garbage is actually useful? How much time does it actually waste trying to use it ? Vs. a spotter getting you close enough to heave the trailer over and hitch it?

Understand, I grew up a farm boy. The telephone was on the wall, and the TV had 3 channels, and kids played without a phone, xbox, or wifi . We learned how to read and write, not type and spell check. We did math without calculators, and knew how to count change.

I'll share a certain memorable experience. I flew up to my sister's place in Boston, I don't like going home that much because I can't stand New York State, or the cold and snow. But both my sisters pretty much kidnapped me by buying the ticket to surprise Mom and Dad. Mom and Dad not getting any younger so I relented and flew up for Christmas.
Anyway, I left baby sister's house in Boston with the middle sister ( I am the oldest ) out Interstate 90 to Mom and Dad's. We stop in Albany because they wanted to pick up some gifts at a certain mall. We leave the mall, and this is where the fun begins. Little sister starts using the phone to find a gas station , then a McDonald's , of which there is both on practically every street corner in America. So okay, we get back on the highway, I fall asleep, and wake up in the boonies ! I ask " Where are we? " She says "we are suppossed to meet mom and dad in Richfield. " So I ask why are we here? She say's this is where my phone is saying to go.
So I say "What is wrong with you ? You know good and well that you take the Thruway ( 90 ) to the Herkimer exit, drive 5 miles over the hill and your in Richfield " her reply was " well my phone says this is the shortest route".
The shortest route at 30 miles an hour by distance is not the shortest route by time at 60 mph!
