Hey kids! Ive got my 98 ram 1500, and the roof just looks bla... ive got a lightbar up there now, but ive been tossing around the idea of clearance lamps. after pricing out a kit, i think i want to go for it. ive heard on the 2500's, that there is a wire tucked into the trim of the right side A-pillar, for the lights. i was wondering if that was there on the 1500's too, or if i would have to tap into something else- like the marker lights. any ideas? i'd get the OEM Mopar kit, so it has the template and everything.

also, im not familiar with taking down the headliner, so is there anything special i should know? ive got the club cab, ext cab 2 door. i also have the invaluable Haynes manual to my disposal

unless you really really want cab lights i would suggest not doing it. you will have to seal them up very frequently as you are literally cutting multiple holes in your roof to mount them. its a huge hassle. i did it on my 95 f150 and they never sealed quite right with occasional wind noise and they leaked in a carwash a couple times. also fairly hard to wire sense they are not meant to be. but as far as taking the headliner down its nothing special. just use plenty of glue up front by the windshield because the sun will get it. but if you want a winter project or something go for it but be very careful!

There is no reason to fear leaky cab lights IMO.

The Gen II Rams are quite easy to install them on too.
Drop the head liner and you'll see the factory holes in the inner skeleton.
I used a 3/4" sheet metal punch, went right through the outer skin, pre-drill the mounting locations and you're 98% done.

I did not know to look for a wire (on my Gen 2) so I just soldered on from the parking light output of the headlight switch.

It went really well, and after 2+ years, I never had a single leak.
