Recent code P0480 in my 2021 Ram 5.7 Hemi 66,000 miles. No overheating, and fan appears to be working fine. Wiped the code once and it reappeared instantly. Wanted to try replacing the relay that controls the cooling fan before moving onto other solutions. I wanted to be sure I'm replacing the proper fuse? In reviewing the list in the manual, only the F05 Cavity (a 20 amp yellow fuse) references the cooling fan. Is this the one I should try replacing?

Any help on this issue would be appreciated.

If I'm not mistaken the Gen5 trucks did away with the belt drive fan and use a 850W PWM fan instead. That uses probably a 100A fuse.
There is no relay that turn the fan on, one of the small control wires going to the fan sends a pulsed speed signal to control the fan from off to full speed.

So; in this situation, is replacing the 100A fuse the possible solution to addressing the P0480 code?

If the fuse was bad, the fan wouldn't run at all. There most likely a feedback circuit that not sending the proper signal

I agree with crash68, if the fuse was done, you shouldn't have a working fan at all. You can still test the fuse it if you have a multimeter though, fairly easy test.

He is also right that there is no belt driven fan on 5th gen Rams (used to be called clutch fans), its all electric fans now.

The fan itself could still be bad. Just because it turns on/appears to work doesn't mean it isn't sending faulty/no messages to the car's computer.

Most likely top possibilities in my brief experience:
- Bad fan (most likely)
- Bad wiring (if no rodents, not super likely)
- Bad computer (least likely, but not out of the realm of possibility)

Do you have access to an OBD app (Jscan, AlphaOBD, etc.) and matching OBD connector? I don't think you'd need the SGW bypass cable to do functional tests, but its been a while since I've been in there.

How mechanically inclined are you and how deep do you want to go for testing?

Yea, to do any tests at all, clear codes, or anything you'll need a FCA AutoAuth account and a scan tool that is registered with AutoAuth.

Or, a bypass cable.

@Damfarm

If you get a bypass cable, AlfaOBD can turn it on/off, so you can test the fan itself, and measure the voltage/duty cycle at the connector.

I know noone likes spending money on a bunch of stuff, but if you have a modern car and intend on working on it yourself, there's no way around it. You gotta have a way to access the computers. It's just as important as sockets and wrenches.

Otherwise, you're probably better of finding a local shop that will treat you right.
