OK, so all too often someone comes on to the forums and presents a problem, and the first guidance is for them to get a code scan and to come back with what was found. Totally reasonable and understandable approach. My question is, where is the best place to get a code scan? Just about any parts store will do one, and of course the dealer, but in my experience there are wildly different outcomes to what happens NEXT. The next inevitable question when a code scan is completed is what to do about it. I've had my truck scanned at several places with varying levels of helpfulness. Just the other day I saw that O'Reilly's is advertising their solution that gives more comprehensive guidance when they scan your codes about what potential errors are, what the fix might be, etc.
If you're like me, I'm no mechanic but I'm not afraid to pick up a wrench if it'll save me money and I have confidence that I understand the problem and solution. But with some of the code scans I've had both the tech and I were clueless as to what the result actually meant, or what to do about it.
