Yeah OP just gotta step up and see if the shaft turns when cranking.

Could the friggin distributor be loose not screwed down tight ? The old Chevy were good for that.

Oh well brain burnout. Cannot think of anything else except condenser or shaft not spinning of course that cap and rotor he got could be bad who k iwd

Ok @diymirage have good evening.

Guy towing had big load, floored it and it jumped time or hic up and broke that shaft? Oh well.

Hopefully OP can get it into someone and diagnosed if he has no success.
He said the guy was plowing with it

I know ice caught a curb or two plowing and it will jar that 8 ton truck hard enough to rattle your fillings

In that scenario I can see a bad connection popping loose

(I once jumped an intersection in my duster and the landing popped the connector off of the orange box...that one took me a while to figure out)

I wonder there might not even be a condenser. He may have that high voltage unit in there instead of points remember those electronic replacements. Been soooo long since I looked did anything with that stuff and I was playing with mostly GM back in the 70s.

Replace the ballast resistor on the firewall that will cause a no spark at the plugs, or you seriously jumped time, get a breaker bar and put it one the crank damper, rotates it back and forth and see if the distributor rotor rotates with it, if there is a lot of play in it you've jumped timing you need a new timing set,
(Crank gear, timing chain, cam gear, gasket set) plowing with it and wear and tear stretched the timing chain.

There is also one on the wiper motor (or there used to be)

Which can be used in a pinch to replace the ignition one and get you home

I just not know on a 97 Magnum motor. Just no clue. Up to OP now to do things. I wonder if he got both wires connected to the points/or electronic point replacement under cap and and lol.

The part under the dist cap is the magnetic pick up, that needs a gap of 0.25- 0.30, I use to work on allot of old Mopar products MOPAR or NoCar era.

Could not remember name. I only had traditional points and cap and rotor on my GM stuff back then

Even if if jumped time, it would still spark 8 times per revolution

The crankshaft turns the timing chain, which turn the cam shaft, which turns the intermediate shaft which turn the oil pump and the distributor

Does it have oil pressure when you crank it ?
I Haven’t had any time lately to try any of the suggestions but I didn’t think about the oil pressure. I did change the distributor as the old one looked very sketchy. I’m going to work on it this weekend & report the results…Thanks everyone who is trying to help me out with this headache!!

I’m trying to get someone to crank it while I watch the rotor turn or not turn but everybody is busy…didn’t see any loose/broken connection but then again not much room…thanks everyone for your help hopefully it’s something stupid & I stumble on it and it runs! Lol

Set your phone where it can video the rotor while being safely set in placer, then crank the motor. Best set of remote eyes ever.

Should be able to jump the starter relay with a screwdriver while looking at the engine too...or make a "remote starter", a few feet of wire, two Aligator clips and a push button

Or grab the pulley on the crank with your hands and rotate back and forth, this will allow you to see how much play is in the timing chain and gears.
