On the 27th of July dealer flushed the radiator on my 2013 ram 1500 Laramie 5.7. Build date Sept 2012. Afterwards went to pay and asked for a gal of the same coolant used in flush. I gave the parts person the paperwork of the work done, coolant 68048953AC Hoat flush and 5001 coolant kit. Received Gal 68163848AB Oat concentrate printed on jug, but receipt shows 68048953AC . All is fine not noticing any diff . Since then been periodically checking reservoir after driving. Yesterday Aug 4 dip stick shows maybe inch . It looked orange. So I mix mixed up 1 qt 1/2 distilled to 1/2 concentrate. Its purple. Dip stick look orange. Then used coolant tester to see if it was orange and it was orange. So I started looking at my owners manual. Page 96 shows Oat 10yr 150,000. Ive looked up Mopar coolants to check . Oat , Hoat with part numbers. Didn't add to tank yet until I know. Now my question is I'm I seeing this right? Is dealer messed up or is my thinking? Could it be my build date? Look at coolant treads here. Original coolant was orange and yes it can change colors.

What to do? And Thanks
From all mixed up by dealer. Too funny!

I believe 2013 should have the HOAT coolant and Mopar is orange. I have a 2016 and I have the OAT coolant and it is dyed purple. I also bought the concentrate from the dealer to do a coolant flush and it is purple also.

What your truck originally came with isn’t as important as what’s in it, the most important thing is to not mix coolants. If the dealer put HOAT in, go on Amazon and get a gallon of Mopar HOAT, premixed or concentrate whatever your preference is. It’s about $20-30 shipped, cheaper then the dealer

More than likely you do have the Mopar "Purple Kool-Aid", it's well documented that it turns to an orangish-rose color over time. It will turn back to purple when warm, it's easier to see this happen in vehicles with de-gas bottles.

I agree ...keep it all orange, if for no other reason than you know it's 'right'. Otherwise if it turned brown from adding the coolant, you can't really debug very well if there are issues in the future (oil, or other contaminants in the coolant) ...should anything arise.

The bigger question is, where's your engine's coolant going? Keep an eye on it. You might sniff in the radiator opening (cap off) for combustable odors, and/or keep your ear open for any morning 'gurggling' when you fist start up or take off. Telletale of early head gasket failure, or possible heater core leaking. Also, maybe one of the lower radiator hoses isn't seated well, or the radiator itself has a minor leak. Look under the waterpump weep hole with an inspection mirror for wetness (or any wetness running down the lower radiator hose). Those are all common areas where coolant leaks. Catch the issue early and it'll cost you less (probably). Cheers!!

Did you talk to the parts guy about this? If he sold you the wrong coolant then take ot back and get the correct stuff.

How is that cheaper? His receipt shows $19.20.

The subject is my owners manual and user guide states Oat 10yr /150000 mi. Their documents added above says Mopar Hoat 68048953AC in the flush. Why would this dealer not follow factory recommendations. I'm going to call 2 nearby dealers on Monday to asked about a coolant flush and see what is recommended. Then the local dealer to inquire about the recommended coolant. Along with selling me a Gal jug Hoat 68048953AC on the receipt , but is Oat 68163848AB as show above on the jug. Either way I will not mix coolants.
Thanks for input.

The entire industry says hoat and oat are compatible, is why the dealer did that, I'm sure most of them don't even want to mess with hoat as it is indeed inferior. Kinda too late now. The good news is you dont have dex which is causing the most damage out there, that and dex clones. I'd just roll with it, maybe not ideal, but maybe it works out. Now, if by chance there is some gelling up, rmi 25 safely removes anything wrong in cooling system and deposits it overflow to be vacuumed out. If you do a rmi 25 run and nothing ends up in overflow, rest assured your system is fine, yes it works that good I have seen it myself. See which coolant thread looks at msds of both products, the industry does have a point when they call it compatible, as oat has less additives and mostly base, and that base it about 70% of hoats base as well. they are similar...
