On the 27th of July dealer flushed the radiator on my 2013 ram 1500 Laramie 5.7. Build date Sept 2012. Afterwards went to pay and asked for a gal of the same coolant used in flush. I gave the parts person the paperwork of the work done, coolant 68048953AC Hoat flush and 5001 coolant kit. Received Gal 68163848AB Oat concentrate printed on jug, but receipt shows 68048953AC . All is fine not noticing any diff . Since then been periodically checking reservoir after driving. Yesterday Aug 4 dip stick shows maybe inch . It looked orange. So I mix mixed up 1 qt 1/2 distilled to 1/2 concentrate. Its purple. Dip stick look orange. Then used coolant tester to see if it was orange and it was orange. So I started looking at my owners manual. Page 96 shows Oat 10yr 150,000. Ive looked up Mopar coolants to check . Oat , Hoat with part numbers. Didn't add to tank yet until I know. Now my question is I'm I seeing this right? Is dealer messed up or is my thinking? Could it be my build date? Look at coolant treads here. Original coolant was orange and yes it can change colors.

What to do? And Thanks
From all mixed up by dealer. Too funny!

I believe 2013 should have the HOAT coolant and Mopar is orange. I have a 2016 and I have the OAT coolant and it is dyed purple. I also bought the concentrate from the dealer to do a coolant flush and it is purple also.

What your truck originally came with isn’t as important as what’s in it, the most important thing is to not mix coolants. If the dealer put HOAT in, go on Amazon and get a gallon of Mopar HOAT, premixed or concentrate whatever your preference is. It’s about $20-30 shipped, cheaper then the dealer

More than likely you do have the Mopar "Purple Kool-Aid", it's well documented that it turns to an orangish-rose color over time. It will turn back to purple when warm, it's easier to see this happen in vehicles with de-gas bottles.

I agree ...keep it all orange, if for no other reason than you know it's 'right'. Otherwise if it turned brown from adding the coolant, you can't really debug very well if there are issues in the future (oil, or other contaminants in the coolant) ...should anything arise.

The bigger question is, where's your engine's coolant going? Keep an eye on it. You might sniff in the radiator opening (cap off) for combustable odors, and/or keep your ear open for any morning 'gurggling' when you fist start up or take off. Telletale of early head gasket failure, or possible heater core leaking. Also, maybe one of the lower radiator hoses isn't seated well, or the radiator itself has a minor leak. Look under the waterpump weep hole with an inspection mirror for wetness (or any wetness running down the lower radiator hose). Those are all common areas where coolant leaks. Catch the issue early and it'll cost you less (probably). Cheers!!

Did you talk to the parts guy about this? If he sold you the wrong coolant then take ot back and get the correct stuff.

How is that cheaper? His receipt shows $19.20.

The subject is my owners manual and user guide states Oat 10yr /150000 mi. Their documents added above says Mopar Hoat 68048953AC in the flush. Why would this dealer not follow factory recommendations. I'm going to call 2 nearby dealers on Monday to asked about a coolant flush and see what is recommended. Then the local dealer to inquire about the recommended coolant. Along with selling me a Gal jug Hoat 68048953AC on the receipt , but is Oat 68163848AB as show above on the jug. Either way I will not mix coolants.
Thanks for input.

The entire industry says hoat and oat are compatible, is why the dealer did that, I'm sure most of them don't even want to mess with hoat as it is indeed inferior. Kinda too late now. The good news is you dont have dex which is causing the most damage out there, that and dex clones. I'd just roll with it, maybe not ideal, but maybe it works out. Now, if by chance there is some gelling up, rmi 25 safely removes anything wrong in cooling system and deposits it overflow to be vacuumed out. If you do a rmi 25 run and nothing ends up in overflow, rest assured your system is fine, yes it works that good I have seen it myself. See which coolant thread looks at msds of both products, the industry does have a point when they call it compatible, as oat has less additives and mostly base, and that base it about 70% of hoats base as well. they are similar...

When I priced concentrate a while back Amazon was cheaper anyways, might vary depending on dealer and also changing prices.

To the OP, 2013 was the year they switched from HOAT to OAT, with your truck being a 2013 model year built in 2012 I’ll bet the just screwed up. You’ll be just fine with HOAT as long as you don’t mix them, if your truck was a few months older that’s what would’ve been in it from the factory.

When cold is your coolant pinkish or purplish, like right in the morning? Do you have a visual resevoir? I see and guess now that oat wasn't used yet? If that is the case eat the coolant and just get some hoat problem solved. If the dealer put oat in roll with it. So point is when warm 10 year oat can look orange, if that aint the mindfart of alltime.

Color is next to worthless

Up until about June 2007, the Chrysler coolant was ..
Inorganic Acid Technology (IAT) coolant , ( the Green Stuff )
A
bout July 2007, the beginning of the 2007 Production year , to the end of the 2012 Chrysler production years, the coolant type was changed to

Coolant Antifreeze - Mopar (68048953AC)

2007-2012 Mopar - 68048953ac
MOPAR HOAT, ( Hybrid Organic Acid Technology )

At the beginning of the 2013 FCA Ram Production year, they changed to Mopar OAT , ( Organic Acid Technology )

Quiz :
which is the Oat coolant jug, which is the HOAT coolant jug ?
Jugs Cap color is a hint.
1691292209459.png
10 Year marking on the jug indicates OAT, 5 year is HOAT

Concentrated coolant, will have a different Number than Prediluted

I wonder if you have a code reader on your cell phone,
would it read the what the actual product is

there is many coolant color threads, I cant seam to find the one from chrysler that was like 2014, spells it out perfect. Here is a coolant thread, as you see, purple can look absolute orange.

this went in as purple oat, go figure..

Coolant Antifreeze - Mopar (68048953AC)

2007-2012 Mopar - 68048953ac HOAT

I would be asking questions too !!

If you want to do a quick color test.
Draw the coolant out into a clear jug & look at it under sun light, or other bright light

Thanks all for input. I do have extended Warranty and I know which dealer it came from. First ask what coolant would be use. I'll have a vin run done with printed copy.. Just getting things documented for any harm done or none. I don't care which coolant is in it. As long as it has not been changed. With parts dept giving Oat and putting Hoat in flush was a bit foolish. That got me thing why the diff.
Dealer ??? tomorrow???.

Ya’ll are complicating this way too much lol. He’s got HOAT in his truck now and that’s all that matters. Buy a gallon of HOAT to top off as necessary and move on. Simple

The color is a dye.

But use the right stuff as everyone has pretty much suggested. Things used to be a lot more straight-forward in the good ole 'green days' ....lol.
