One of my coworkers who has a 2010 bighorn cc was at the dealer earlier in the week getting his pinion recall looked into, his truck was fine, and while he was there he decided to inquire about a set of cooper tires to upgrade the older coopers he presently has on there and the parts counter guy said that Chrysler no longer recommends this brand of tire. He thought his leg was being pulled as he got the tires 2 years ago at the same dealer. That is when the parts guy turned the computer screen toward him and across the top of the screen was in big letters not recommended for ram trucks. He inquired about a set of Khumos and the same message popped up on the screen. the only tires that were being pimped were some off brand street tread that is similar to what comes stock. What is the motivation from Dodge or Chrysler to try and limit our tire selection? The parts guy said they recently got some sort of memo from above that has forced this into being but wouldn't provide any info on why? Neither of us want to run stock patterned tires forever the tread pattern sucks for living in the sticks like we do. I have a lifetime warranty on my truck and don't want to have issues with it when something does break because I am running a tire that is going to void it. Is this just over thinking the situation or is the dealer trying to sell some off brand crap and making this up?

I'd try another dealer.

Somebody is trying to blow smoke up your ass. Tires are a wearable part, it shouldn't have ANY effect on the warranty at all.

I would say that it's definitely dealer discretion. Dealers are about "up-sells", and maximizing profits. I would be hard pressed to believe that any automaker would discourage use of a brand of tire on the vehicle, or deny warranty claims based on a tire manufacturer.

Gotta call BS on this. Especially since Cooper tires are definitely a high quality tire.

He said last night that he is gonna look at the local discount tire and see what they have. I agree they are trying to sway the customers tire buying decisions by limiting what they will sell now. Is it possible dodge did release a memo on the , though a stretch thinking this but, fact that there are weak links in the drive line i.e. the rear dif recall issues and transmission and maybe other unforseen issues where a set of tires that had more grip would put more strain on the weak links and cause more warranty issues, and more of a street tire would be less stress on the components because of less grip? or just a conspiracy theory lol.

My guess is the system is trying to tell the staff what makes the company the most money... Cheap brands and private labels usually have better profit margins.
