2016 Ram 1500. Went to refuel, down to maybe 1/4 tank. After refueling it took 3 tries for it to start. Once started I have no performance issues at all. No hesitation, no rough idle. I was thinking fuel check valve but after letting truck sit for a week it started up right away. I tried putting gas in using gas can only and no issue. No error codes

Time your idle time waiting in line then time shut off filling then mirror that including normal drive to gas station with 1/2 tank or better as it could be dripping injectors

Pull your evap line that goes into your intake when you fuel up and see how much fuel comes out of it you might have a plug evap canister. Good news it's easy to delete all that garbage out of the ram :birgits_tiredcoffee

humor me for a moment, wouldnt a clogged canister cause gas smell, poor performance, trouble filling up? I see nothing other than trouble starting after filling up with a gas pump.

Sorry Was this an answer to my question? I cant see this on my phone. So, No gas smell , No Issues with performance once started, No problems with the pressure kicking off the fuel nozzle before tank is full, No problems starting any other time of the week no matter how short or long it sits. From what i have read about the cannister I should be seeing 1 if not all of those symptoms.

I rarely drive this truck so havent messed with it much so with that being said I noticed the following:
1)When the truck is running , if i pull the gas cap off its pressurized and not venting.
2) I pulled the line running from the PCV Valve back to the cannister at the pcv valve and just before the cannister. Blew air through to see if clogged. Did not seem clogged.
3) Pulled the line at the back of PCV valve during fueling - No gas coming out of line- just air. Plugged back after refueling and truck started right up.
Thoughts on these items?

PCV stands for positive crankcase ventilation. It's an engine vent, not a fuel tank vent. Pulling the PCV valve for a fuel tank issue is kinda like changing your shirt after you **** yourself. It don't help.

Did you mean that you pulled the hose off of the evap purge control solenoid?

The gas cap has a one way valve in it. It's supposed to allow air to enter the tank as the fuel level drops, but not let fuel vapors exit.

Are you sure it wasn't vacuum, sucking air in when you crank open the cap? If so, it would indicate that the cap is bad. If vacuum is building up, the fuel pump can struggle to build fuel pressure.

If any air pressure builds up inside the tank, it's supposed to exit through the charcoal canister, where it is neutralized, then out through the vent tube. If pressure is building up, then you have a problem with the charcoal canister, ESIM or with the related plumbing.

Pulled the purge valve hose while its running and no vacuum occurs when pulling the cap. Replaced the hose and vacuum is building.

Should the EVAP Purge Solenoid be open pulling vacuum all of the time even without having the connector plugged in?

I will randomly have this issue after a fill up. Try and start the truck and it either does not start at first attempt, and it will start right up the second attempt. Or, it will start and studder a few times before it catches on and then will idle just fine.

I have replaced the canister on the fuel tank in the past, due to an evap code. I'm wondering if I need to change it out again, or if it's something else.
