So my cruise control on/off button is working sporadically. A couple times now I go to trim of cruise system and it won’t come on. Then suddenly, it decides to come on after pressing a bunch of times. Once it’s on, it works fine. Any thoughts?

I have this exact problem and I've noticed this odd quirk... it's like the cruise on/off button is asleep... I press it, nothing happens, but if I reach over and press SET or RES then press the cruise on/off button again, it works just fine... like I "woke it up" by pressing one of the other buttons.

My 2017 does the same. A light bump on the steering wheel or flick on the switch usually fixes it.

Dealer wouldn’t replace it as they were not able to recreate the problem.

I use cruise control a lot and the only issue I have is that occasionally the cancel button doesn’t work & I’ll have to tap the brakes to kill it. I’ll eventually change out the button or clean it with electronic cleaner myself but I’ve got an unreasonable fear of removing the air bag.

I was going to suggest electronic cleaner, I have never had any trouble with my 14 sport, I guess if you take the wheel cover off, you are messing with the air bag? The last wheel I took apart was a 91 that I put factory cruse on, but I don't really remember what the switches look like, Likely a different system
These sound like poor contact in plug or switch, A computer problem is usually not fixed by a wack, though back in the old days , that was the first thing tried with radios and T.V.'s ( and the kids)

If using cleaner try doing it without pulling the wheel. If you pull the wheel you might as well replace the switch. Removing the airbag from the steering wheel is a bit of a pia. Its the hardest part of removing the steering wheel. I've pulled it once to add radio control switches to my steering wheel. It was worth it to get those buttons installed.

I put up with this intermittent problem for years in my 2014 3500 dually but last thanksgiving I picked up a steering wheel with all the buttons reasonablely priced considering radio wheel controls the nicer heated wheel with cruse buttons. After swapping steering wheel first week in December I have not hah one issue with cruse all problems gone

I have had this same issue since the truck was new. Ram Cares opened a claim for me but until it won't work at all I'm not letting the dealer, or anyone else, touch my truck.

same here on my 2017. I did the tap thing i found on YouTube and it's working now. Tap the top on the steering wheel arm just above the switch. I bought a new one for $100 from the dealer just need to take the time to pull all that fun steering wheel stuff off. Easy replacement though takes less than an hour.

My 2014 just rolled 182K. This happened to me a couple of times over the life of the truck. Recently, it would not come on at all.

I had heard about smacking the back of the steering wheel on that side where the switch is. So I slapped the back of the wheel, and it comes on again now! LOL

Crazy, but it worked.

My cruise control switch started working intermittently 8 months after getting my 2018. Dealer replaced and I note they determined it was a switch gone bad by an electrical test (resistance I think) of the pads various functions. An anomaly was found.

same thing on my 2016, sometimes it can be quite stubborn, sometimes it leaps to life. No explaining it.

Same issue has happened twice recently on my ‘14 Ram. Both times, it wasn’t until after I hit the sequence of “Gear-“ and then “Gear+” that it woke up the Cruise control “on/off” switch. Then cruise control system turned on. Frustrating. Didn’t think to use the “smack” method. Next time I’ll try it.
