So my cruise control on/off button is working sporadically. A couple times now I go to trim of cruise system and it won’t come on. Then suddenly, it decides to come on after pressing a bunch of times. Once it’s on, it works fine. Any thoughts?

What year is the truck? It could be starting to fail or it could just be dirty.

I know the voices in my head aren’t real, but man, do they ever come up with some great ideas.

Same issue for me, four or five times a week. Believe there are a couple threads on this. Hope my work around works for you.

My work around is akin calibrating our B&W TV when I was a kid. Back then it was slap the side of the TV. Picture steadied, for a while.

To get my cruise control button to work, I "flick" my finger at the cruise control button and in the general vicinity. Can take one to eight "flicks" and the cruise button will function again after I push it.

My work around is nonsense. But it works. And is better than $100 deductible with my million mile warranty. That is assuming the RAM tech can duplicate my cruise control button not working.

My 2017 is the same. When I try to use cruise control it doesn't work. I have to hit the button really hard 4 or 5 times then it will come on. I rarely use it so I'm not worried about mine. I'd rather not be without my truck for a week or more for something I rarely use, but that's just me.

Mine has done this for years. I find that if I turn the wheel full lock and back it always works again so I'm guessing a loose connection somewhere.

It hasn't done it for about a year now though now that I think of it.

Mine also does this from time to time. I toggle the on/off button a few times then it works for a long time again. It seems to do this when I haven't used the cruise for a while.

Yes, my 2014 does this occasionally and always has. A pretty well known problem, unfortunately. I'm a frequent CC user, like every time I drive almost. Flicking the button, judo chop the steering wheel and having a telepathic (occasional verbal) discussion to persuade it to work are my only fixes. I'm currently on a good streak and don't even remember how long it's been since it didn't work on 1st push, but it knows I'm typing this right now and I expect it to not work tomorrow.

My CC switch was replaced under warranty at about one year and 9700 miles. Now have about 22K miles and the replacement is still okay.

Mine did this about 6 to 8 months ago then stopped. It usually only happened when I remote started before driving into work and if the on/off didn't work I pushed two cruise control buttons at the same time and it came on. I even took it into the dealer who looked into it for free because my warranty had just expired. I can't remember which but the dealer did say there was a recall on either an earlier model year RAM or it was another MOPAR product.

I live in the mountains... how well does that work, anyway (as in, specific to the Rams?) I might have to find a bit of Interstate and find out... kinda rare I go on one for long enough to even think about CC...

Same issue on my 14. Next trip to the dealer I might have to explore my options. I use cruise all the time here on the flat lands.

When I was under warranty I just kept getting told they couldn't replicate the issue. Hopefully you have better luck with your dealer.

So the problem continues On my 2014 Ram Longhorn.

Doing the manual shift thing seems to work. I was on highway, quickly downshifted to 7th and back to 8th, pushed Cruise On/Off and it worked! Thanks for the link!

Didn’t try the “flick”....yet.

My thought is to have it looked at when I take in for something else. I’ve got a long way to go on my warranty.

Hi all,

Please be sure to reach out to us privately when you are ready to address this with your dealers. We would be happy to get cases escalated on your behalf so that you and your dealer have the support of a specialist while in service.

My 2017 does the same. A light bump on the steering wheel or flick on the switch usually fixes it.

Dealer wouldn’t replace it as they were not able to recreate the problem.

I use cruise control a lot and the only issue I have is that occasionally the cancel button doesn’t work & I’ll have to tap the brakes to kill it. I’ll eventually change out the button or clean it with electronic cleaner myself but I’ve got an unreasonable fear of removing the air bag.
