I didn't buy it from a Ram dealer but Kia. I bought it used pre-certified. I do yes have the center console floor shiftier. It wasn't the original stickier but dealer generated. The original off the Mopar site says 6 speed. I did verify the vin several times as I have used it many times for insurance or whatever else. I have had the truck for 1 year, kinda late but didn't really occur to me until I thought about towing and looking at my information closely. Dont get me wrong I love my truck and wont get rid of it and when the trans goes out I will put in an 8 speed if possible and keep my floor console shiftier.

I have the 6 speed and have had no issues with it. From my understanding swapping out to the 8 speed would not be possible without doing major surgery.

which doesn't necessarily mean they flat out lied. The person making the sticker might have not know any better.

gonna tackle that one as well. As a store manager that has to descript about 400 car a month its easy to click a wrong button, or sometimes the defaults are wrong. If it were a 2013 the 8 speed was standard because it was behind the base v6 if im not mistaken, so the 6 speed would have to be selected.

It happens, does your truck run poorly to where it makes a difference.

The 8-speed was offered with the HEMI in 2013. So your shifter is in the center console, right?

Must of been late availability and or higher trim level. I did some research on it and found just a couple of 2013 longhorns with the 8 speed i know when i bought my 14 in March of 14 not many hemi 8 speeds where out there.

I have been a long time Miata owner and member of the miata.net forum and one of the classic used car claims is certain years and models are being called "M Edition" by the dealerships/sellers. They don't know exactly what an "M Edition" is, the "M" logo may not even be on the car, and people buy them and then ask about the "M" on the forum and find out the seller was "wrong", but the buyer was the wrong one because in basic business law you learn the simple Latin phrase "Caveat Emptor", "Let the Buyer Beware".

Glad you like the truck and I wish you lots of happy miles. Don't sweat the small stuff in this case!

This happens to dealers to. Five years back I sold my Vw rabbit that I prob put 400 hours into modding basically put an entire gti interior inside which included a 6 speed shifter knob which the car was only five I almost fell out of my chair when they phoned asking where the 6th gear was hidden.

I probably misunderstood, I have the floor shifter, sorry guys. 2013 Sport.
Had 37k and got it for 26,000, 5 year @ 1.49%. Now I might know why the price was so low lol.

If you had caught this sooner, you may have been able to get your money back. I find the 6 speed to be a very reliable transmission, but it is close to max power with the stock hemi. As long as you don't upgrade the power to the hemi, it is a very reliable transmission. Don't overload when towing and the six speed will serve you well.

I've got 67K miles on the 6 speed. Nothing to complain about. In fact, I like to drop by and salt the wounds of everyone sniveling :Stupid Me: :emotions122: about the rotary shifter:

There are several that prefer how the 6 speed works when mated with the Hemi. The 8 speed seems to be shifting all the time where the 6 speed is smoother. For towing and hauling heavy, the gear ratios of the 8 speed are of benefit, however.

When I was shopping new in 2016, 6 speed trucks were discounted ~$1000 more than 8 speeds.

I had a 2013 with the hemi and 6 speed....I actually preferred it to the 2017 8 speed. The 8 speed is constantly shifting and I don't care at all for the shift points.

I ran the 2013 to 134,000 miles with absolutely no issues, even with pulling a lot of heavy utility trailers...

If you bought a truck advertised with the 8 speed, but it has the 6 speed, I believe you are owed some money from the dealer.

It might have been an honest mistake, but it was advertised and sold as an 8 speed and I suspect you paid more for it due to it supposedly having an 8 speed.

Doesn't matter how long it has been since the purchase....you will lose money on it when you trade or sell since you paid for the 8 speed but got something less.

If the dealer doesn't want to reimburse you some $$$$, it is time for small claims court for false and negligent advertising.....you should not pay for what you did NOT get.

That's an unreasonable expectation. You may or may not lose any money when trading it in, but it's not reasonable to expect the dealer to be on the hook for that indefinitely, especially on a used vehicle. I'd be extremely surprised if he were able get anything in small claims court after more than a year has gone by since the purchase. Perhaps he could have if he had approached them within the first 30 to 90 days. Of course, like you I am not a lawyer. But I have some experience with this type of claim.

I bought the truck I did specifically because of the equipment that was stated that it had. I wanted the 5.7 with 8spd and 3.92 gears. I would be pissed if I found out later that it was misrepresented.

Hopefully it was just an honest mistake, but it was still a misrepresentation of a major part of the truck. The 8-speed is an upgrade over the 6-speed. It would be similar to advertising a V6 as having a V8. Can't say if there's anything you can get the dealer to do, but you may try contacting them. If it's a dealer that cares about their customer, they may work something out to make you happy.

I would just get all the details you can documented, go talk to the dealership manager don't waste time on the sales guy etc. Mention what you expected if you have to mention BBB, local news and social media if they just brush you off.

Sounds like it was a good way for the dealer to sell the truck, false advertising any way you look at it.

I am kinda torn here...Maybe I am different, but I research a bit when buying a vehicle. Its very easy to determine if its a 6 or 8 speed in these trucks. If they put the wrong gear ratio or something not as obvious, then I would say blatant misrepresentation. But I cant count the number of times I have had to correct a dealership/salesperson on something to told me about a vehicle. I am not saying its right, but mistakes happen. Its kinda hard to mistaken a 6 speed shifter for an 8 speed shifter, even with a tiny bit of research.
