Well, my brother got hit head on by a drunk and distracted driver and destroyed his 2019 Toyota 4Runner (great truck, I will admit).

Any suggestions for a dash cam?

I know it won’t make up for his loss but couldn’t hurt in case this ever happens again. It’s preferred a front/rear cam setup, large internal or SD card expandable memory and, if possible, motion sensing for during parking lot “situations”.

Pics added for reference.

Surprisingly yes.

Just some bumps and bruises so far, still being checked for issues from it to include traumatic brain injury, or neck and back issues.

I've been using the Blackvue DR650GW-2CH for over 4 years running 24/7. Great cameras and they have a newer 700 series I plan to swap too if these break...

I’ve run a Thinkware in the Motorhome for several years. Just ordered a new one for the truck.

The one I have was made in Korea. TW is based there. I’d prefer domestic but I don’t know of any. I try to send as little money as possible into the Chinese economy.

I’ve been using a dash cam for years. I don’t like driving a vehicle without one.
I just purchased this one when I switched head units.
If you have an iPhone the app is useless. iPhone won’t allow you to access the WiFi connection the dash cam creates because there isn’t an internet connection.
I tried on an Android tablet and had no issues with the app. I can only assume the Android OS doesn’t care what network you’re connected too..

I have a cheapie little one that looks like a GoPro but its not one ...it works great and I have it mounted to the bottom of my rear view mirror .... I was driving with it all the time and stopped, but recently the amount of idiots out driving is going to make me drive with it all the time now again ....

Holy crap that’s a lot to work through, thanks for all the intel and advice on this.

I’ve seen the major manufacturers are Rexing, Blackvue, Garmin, Aukey and a few others. I’ll sift through Amazon and few other sites for reviews and see what I can work with.

Exactly brother. I’m looking for one for my brother, but definitely for myself as well. With the cost of everything nowadays, I can’t afford not to have a little extra bit of “insurance” in case someone breaks into or crashes into my truck.

Right! lol ... I did see this guy with a 2500 a few months back that had one powered by a mini solar panel which allowed it to stay on all the time and it had great range, HD 4k quality and somehow had 360 coverage ..... I forgot what the camera was called but he said he only payed $300 and change ....

That would be nice to bypass the truck battery but that sounds way above my mechanical and electrical skills.

Blackvue sells a power magic pro that makes it easy to wire up. It turns off the camera if voltage dips below a certain threshold.

Yeah .. I looked around the web and you need a power bank to power the camera, not sure how they wired it all up but it worked for that guy and he said he did it himself ....

I’m using a Kenwood model with front & rear cameras, touch screen, WiFi and gps. You can download an app for your device to connect to the camera to view/download the video, or just remove the card. I rigged up a mount so it is attached to the rear view mirror cover and hangs just below the mirror. You can also get it without the rear camera if desired. No problems or complaints.

I had a Uniden Cam945 in my old Ram.... but I didn't use it as much as I thought I would.

I'm not really sure what's good and what's not.

Truck lives in very sketchy neighborhood...any thoughts on hidden cam, that won't get my ram broken into?
