I have a 2013 CC Laramie Longhorn with the factory projectors and the amber LED parking lights. I want to activate DRL's on my truck.

I have done the internet searches on this and its been hit and miss whether it can be done or not. Some say it can and some say it cant. Ive read the district service manager has to add it to your VIN prior to the dealer adding (in my case the LM5) sales code.

Has anybody actually had their dealer do this on a 2013 5.7 1500 with projectors?

Some people have succeeded and some haven't. There's a ton of threads on it here. The biggest factor is going to be whether the sales code is available for your VIN in DealerCONNECT. If it is, any dealer can easily enable them. If not, you're going to have an uphill battle getting the code added. Most dealers don't know who to call or don't care. And, even if they do, sometimes they get nowhere.

Subd. I would love to figure out if you get anywhere with this. I am in a similar situation but a different sales code.

Hi boomer632,

I can check to see if your truck has the capability for the DRLs. If not, because it is technically a modification to the factory specifications of the vehicle, it's usually difficult to get the code added.

there are plenty of threads on here about this. Just take the above installation instructions to your dealer. I had my dealer add the sales code to md 2017 Sport which did not originally have the sales code. It can be done! All else fails, have you dealer call mine. Winter Haven Dodge at 863-299-1243 and ask for Keith. He's the sales rep but he knows which of his service guys got my DRLs on.

Do you have the projectors and use sales code LM5?

And all the threads repeat this same bad info. Just because they could be added to one truck does not mean they can be added to another. This is not a guaranteed, consistent thing.

The only way the dealer can enable the DRLs is if they add the sales code as a "Dealer Installed Option" in DealerCONNECT and then restore the vehicle configuration via WiTECH. The pre-requisite for this operation is that corporate has made that sales code available for that vehicle. If they have not, there is nothing the dealer can do at that point other than attempt to get FCA to make that code available (which is notoriously difficult). There are plenty of people who have been stopped in their tracks trying to get this done because the code wasn't available.

Yep.

I don't think that's the case. I think if your truck did not come with the code, then your dealer has to add it following those instructions. I think it also has a great deal to do with if your dealer is willing to actually figure it out. A lot of them seem to just brush us off and not even try to have the code added.

Yes, if the code is in the system. Those instructions are 100% useless if the code is not in the system. There is nothing the dealer can do directly at this point.

This photo was posted by a member here. They didn't have the code available but were able to get corporate to add it to the system. Even then, it didn't work properly once added to the truck. When they tried to escalate the issue, they were flat out told by STAR (the FCA internal dealer technical support organization) that they were SOL. There is more to this than a lot of people realize and it goes much higher than the dealer. For many people, bringing along that printout or going to a different dealer is going to do them no good.

Until FCA decides to officially support DRLs as a dealer installed option for RAMs across the board (like they should have done years ago) this is going to continue to be an issue for people.

It took me two trips and an email to the service manager but I eventually got mine activated. I was told the exact thing about it not being available for my truck. They just had the parts manager go into the system and ADD the LM5 sales code to my VIN. I went in a week later and the code magically appeared for my truck. Left 30 minutes later with DRLs.

I'm telling you it can be done. I was originally told the code was not available for my truck either but after showing them the instructions, they had it added through Chrysler to my vin, reflashed the computer and activated them. It can be done.

See! It's literally a matter of if the dealer is willing to work with you or not to figure it out. ALL trucks that come factory with the projector headlights will have the DRL pin on the harness which means the DRLs CAN be activated for that truck whether the sales code is previously there or not.

I just had the DRL turned on at the dealership today with success. I have a 2017 Ram 2500 Laramie Sport with the projector headlights and the LED parking lights.
The tech added LM5 sales code to vehicle options in Dealer Connect with WiTech (wifi connected to OBDII port). Now the front LED's illuminate when the vehicle is running and out of the park position (in drive, neutral or reverse). The LED will go off when over the (chosen) turn signal is engaged and blinking.

Took my dealer 3 times to get it done.
1st time they said the code was on and the wiring was not there
2nd time said the code was on and the bulb was not there
3rd time they wiped out all the previous codes and actually put in the LM5 code and hey look at that it worked.

Im guessing the 1st 2 times the guys really didnt want to mess with it or they were D.A.'s

Just to further dilute the issue and see if anyone has input; I'd like to add my attempt today.
I have a Canadian built 14' Ram 1500 Bighorn. It came with the Quad Headlights with the DRL code (LMK I'm assuming) already activated. I switched out the headlights for stock projectors and now, as it was with the quads, my highbeam is running at reduced power. Not a sexy look in my opinion.
The truck was at the dealership for exhaust manifold repair (third party warranty <--- No Bueno) and I asked them to try adding code LM5 and removing LMK while it was in there. Now at this point, I'd be happy having no DRL. When I went to pick it up, they informed me the codes simply weren't there for the VIN as others mentioned could be possible. The strange thing is they also couldn't find the code which is actively running the DRL setup I have now!
So, if anyone has any ideas on that or if you live in AK and have had better luck, let me know!
