So I hate the look of the chrome grill, and don't want to buy another. I was wondering the best way to go about removing it. Ideally I want to rocker guard it.

If I just spray over I realize that it won't stick well and can be peeled off. I tried stuffing it but I guess I didn't do enough.

If there is any other known way, I would be willing to try. Cheaper the better!

Pretty sure you can use a razor blade to cut slits in chrome an peel it off

You could wrap it with vinyl. Not sure what to to do with the inserts. Maybe plastidip?

The inserts are a PITA to get out. The whole things is just chrome over plastic - some sanding should get it off.

I plasti-dipped mine and after a year its still hanging in there just fine. Any little rock hits and a little zap of spray covers it up. I know this doesn't help for rockguarding but perhaps works as an alternative?

I plastidipped mine as well. It's only been a couple of months but it's holding up well so far and looks great.
