I need some opinions on how to handle my situation. We brought in our 2015 durango r/t to dealership to fix broken exhaust studs and also the fuel door hinge was broke. They replaced the exhaust manifolds and studs without issue, but trying to get the fuel door out managed to put 3 small dents around the opening from prying. They used touch up paint to cover up the marks. picked it up in the dark so really couldnt see anything until I got it in the garage with lights. I am fuming right now, they are closed till tommorrow. I expect them to deny any wrong doing, but its blatantly obvious, the dents are where the tabs are. Am I not giving the dealership enough credit to do the right thing or from your experience are they gonna try to get out of any wrong doing?

Least you can do is give them a chance to make it right. I'd bet your service rep had no idea what the techs did, beyond completing the service ticket. Don't ruin your night raging over it.

Take it back and demand that they fix it. It's their fault because obviously they were working on taking this thing out! I think that you have a very good case that they're the ones who caused damage. They got business insurance that will cover this mess up as the body shop will probably have to replace that whole panel to properly fix it.. You may or may not want to do the repair but they should write you a check for fixing it at body shop of your choice..

I wonder if you can call your car insurance and submit a claim through them so that you don't have to deal with dealership telling you that they'll get it fixed by "their" body shop..

I had same issue happen to me couple of years ago - dealer was doing engine work and an idiot tech used a screwdriver to pop out the plastic under wheel coverings, and that left a small but visible bump right above my wheel ! Can only see it at certain light.. I told service advisor next day but decided to leave it as is because I thought that they'll take better care of me for the upcoming repair .. Well they didn't give a crap about me as usual, and now I'm regretting every time I see that dent that I didn't made them fix it!

Your case is even stronger as they used touch paint trying to cover up their mess up, which is unethical.

Go get a nice check from them please. Call your car insurance agent and see if they can deal with them and that you don't want to pay deductible because it's not your fault and they were working on it. See what they say ... Not sure if this is the best approach but you'll get a fatter check from your insurance if this works out vs dealing with the dealers body shop.. Good luck

Don't be "That customer", give them a chance.

Larry
OP, Don't listen to our friendly and peaceful contributors :) go screw that dealership back for all of us. Dealers will take out last drop of blood each time they can, don't let them get away with this

IMHO--give them the opportunity to make things right first. I agree that the service writer may not know that the tech damaged your truck. See if they are willing to do the right thing--if not, escalate the complaint to the dealership management.

^ Be polite and passive, let the service writer try and make it right. If no avail, Turn on angry customer mode, talk to the management, and if need be call the cops have them file a damage report, and submit it to ur insurance, hopefully ur insurance can squeeze them.

Going to be civil unless they take no responsibility. Then I will unleash hell on the service center.

Yep give them a chance to fix it first, now if they bs or give you the run around.. rage... or if the fix isn’t up to your standard. Sadly seems most techs are like this.. would rather cover up their mistake then to admit and let them fix it and most folks wouldn’t know any better.

Met with dealership yesterday. truck goes in tommorrow. They have a dentless paint repair contractor who will be taking a shot on it. If not up to my standards, which is perfect, we will have another sit down.

Po Po not gonna do report, as that is a Civil Issue and if OP did not get satisfaction, he would have to file a Suit..

The best thing is to talk to SA and Management and give them chance to do the right thing. After that, elevate is necessary...

As with my kids and well pretty much anyone in my life I deal with. I ask once nicely and politely. If I ask again it’s more firm and a little more direct as to what I expect. If I ask 3rd time well......it’s ugly and loud to put it simple haha. Usually 2nd time gets my point across
