I put one of the retractable type bump steps on my truck a couple of years back. It folds up under the bumper on the driver's side when not in use, and is easy to fold down for use with just a tap of the foot. It extends out from the side of the truck a little bit further than the non-retractable ones and makes it a little easier to get in and out of the bed. There are quite a few different brands and prices available on both Amazon and eBay and are very easy to install. I consider it to be one of the most useful mods I've made to the truck, and I'm just amazed that I don't see more of them out on the road.

Same. I just installed one on mine last week and I'm not sure why I waited this long to get it.

I prefer the Corner step in the bumper. All the add on ones look like an after thought

My problem with trying to use a cutout in a bumper as a step is that my rear bumper is so far off the ground that it would be almost imposible for me to use it that way. My bump step flips down so that it is approximately halfway between the ground and the top of the bumper, which is only about two inches lower than the bed of the truck. And I can use the bump step with the tailgate open or closed. When it is in the flipped up position it is only about a half inch below the bumper. It really makes it so much easier for a fat old man like me to get in and out of the bed of the truck.

My previous truck was an older model Ford Ranger and was not nearly as high off the ground, but I still had a hell of time getting in and out of the bed of that thing. This bump step on the Ram is a God-send.
