Hey guys, my new deezee tail gate assist is giving me problems, the nursert didn't collapse correctly during instsll and I barely got it to work but now it's loosening within a week and causing slop. I got the a new kit on the way and need to remove the old nursert to return it under warranty... what is the best way to remove the old nursert without dropping anything in the tailgate or screwing up the tailgate?

I had a similar problem.. actually the same one! I kept the old kit and gave it to my aunt. The place I bought it didn't want it back! I got mine from etailer.

I just got a hand Sawzall and manually cut it off. I didn't want to use the power Sawzall because I figured it would reck my paint.

How did you cut it off? Did you have access to inside the tailgate? I can see how drilling it out would cause issues as the pieces would fall inside the tail gate… same thing with cutting it off. Unless I can remove the inside cover on the tailgate and get access into the tailgate that way? Seems like ALOT of work to get this stupid not really effective nut out of the hole.

Im wondering if there is a better design that I can come up with… like welding the ball bolt to a larger bolt and putting a washer and nut on the inside. Hell even welding it to the body would solve the issue but ruin the paint… ugh.

Oh sorry I guess I should have mentioned mine was loose enough that I had room to pull it out and cut it. Then once it was 3/4 cut I was able to wiggle it out

The only way I was able to remove a loose nutsert was to hold the outside with a small visegrip and drill out the center. The only thing about this method is the inner part falls into the body. I had to do this on my 2007 wrangler when I installed my sliders and wasn't concerned about the lost piece. If you are worried about the visegrips against the paint you and use electricians tape around the painted area or on the jaws of the visegrips. Good luck.

It's going to fall inside. You might beable to take your tail gate off and get the peice to fall out of the handle access but in my opnion not worth it drill it out and let the peice fall just my 2 cents.

i had this happen... i knocked the nutsert into the tailgate, took the gate off & i was able to fish it out with a magnet through an 1 1/2 inch access hole in the bottom of the gate. tilt the gate until you can reach it with the magnet, just that easy. i also contacted DeeZee directly and they sent me a new nutsert at no cost. hope that helps

I put the screw back in and hit it with a rubber mallet until the nutsert was flat enough to take out.

I had this happen with the kit on my '11. I drilled it out. I removed the access panel on the inside of the tailgate and used a magnet to get the piece out from inside.
