Last year, I decided to drain my 3500's DEF tank because the DEF in there was three years old (I was medically laid up), and I was concerned about its quality after reading all the fearmongering about DEF going bad.
I pulled out just about 1.75 gallons and refilled the DEF tank with fresh. I tested the old DEF, first with the puck meter, and my OLD DEF had two pucks down and one floating, perfect. Next, I broke out my DEF refractometer, and what do you know, that DEF that has been sitting in the truck's tank drew a big beautiful blue area directly through the 32% line.
I will no longer worry about ageing DEF again.
