Is there a difference between DEF that costs $13.00 and DEF that cost $7.00? Is it all the same or should you choose one over the other?

67.5% DI Water, 32.5% Urea. DEF is DEF. I have used primarily Wally Super Tech, and Tractor Supply. When travelling, I have used pump DEF at truck stops. No need for boutique labels.

Make sure it is fresh, and you are good to go.

In some places that sell DEF, they stock it in the Stores Front Windows, where Sunlight shines directly on it.

Do Not Purchase DEF that has sat in Sun Light or that is close to a Year Old.

DEF is often CODE Dated, a calculator is needed to figure out when it was Made

That is 1 reason that buy Walmart brand Super Tech DEF ,
they print the actual Date on the Label

quick video that shows the confusion

A few brands are marketing a version of their DEF that they claim reduces or eliminates DEF deposits, or crystals on the DEF injector nozzle. From what I've read, they use a wetting agent to make the DEF solution "wetter". I have no idea if this claim is anything more than a claim. Neither of my diesels shows any signs of a white residue on the injector nozzle. I also have very limited "short trip" drives, and that may be the difference.

Like others in this thread, I buy whatever brand DEF I see when I'm getting low. Lately I've been getting Menards store brand for under $8 for 2.5 gallons.

Oh forgot about that over priced stuff, btw that is the brand my local dealer said not to use, they claimed they had seem lots of problems from those who use that brand, my guess it most bought it while it was sitting in the sun at the gas station... My truck has used 99% Wally DEF, the only DEF it has used that was not from Wally was what the dealer put in it when bought it back in 2022....

Last year, I decided to drain my 3500's DEF tank because the DEF in there was three years old (I was medically laid up), and I was concerned about its quality after reading all the fearmongering about DEF going bad.

I pulled out just about 1.75 gallons and refilled the DEF tank with fresh. I tested the old DEF, first with the puck meter, and my OLD DEF had two pucks down and one floating, perfect. Next, I broke out my DEF refractometer, and what do you know, that DEF that has been sitting in the truck's tank drew a big beautiful blue area directly through the 32% line.

I will no longer worry about ageing DEF again.

It is my understanding that heat & sun light is whats lowers the shelf life of DEF, if you live in the cooler parts of MI that may be why it was still good at 3 yoa..

Results may be slightly different in AZ...
