I have a dent(s) in my hood as a result of some misguided youngsters dropping what looked like large bolts from a freeway overpass. I was their lucky target that day. I've considered just covering it up with a hood bra or with a vinyl wrap( racing stripes maybe). But I wanted to ask if anyone has done any self repair to a paint or dent related defect and what materials you used to get an OEM paint match. What are the overall feelings of using bondo and paint?

Check your local Market Place / CraigsList etc,you might be able to pick up a good used hood in your color fairly cheap.

If you have the coverage, the damage (vandalism) should be covered under your comprehensive coverage on your auto policy (minus any deductible).

Comprehensive coverage claims do not affect policy pricing, unless there are excessive amounts of claims or the same claim repeatedly (such as broken windshields repaired by friend’s shop).

Good tip. I'll check to see what my coverage has for vandalism. Hope it works out as you say.

Could have killed you are lucky, driving a rig two kids through d cell batteries out on the freeway scariest thing I can remember, they went into my bumper eventhough we were heading in the same direction 65mph, tore a hole in it and huge dents.. I doubt they even realized how dangerous that was, to go into an international bumper is no easy thing. Since my neck is probably not as strong as my bumper was, yes it could have killed me and indeed kills many people every this cr@p. anything that can dent a hood like that can kill you.

Anyhow, I know my deductible is a grand, so if this happened to me I was use this to get a cool after market bumper they have a ton out there from probably 600 ro 1500 for reasonable ones. It will make your truck look real nice, and in fact if you get a quote you can opt to get a check from insurance instead of having the work done, and still get a nicer bumper them flat boring OEM.

I’m sure you’d give him a great deal but he’d have a hard time fitting it to his 5th gen lol.

It took awhile to get back to this but I'd like to say thank you for the tip on the insurance! They took care of me through the vandalism coverage just as you said. Did have to pay my $500 deductible but that was better than paying full out of pocket costs. I got my hood and grill replaced because the grill had some minor damage also. I could have lived with the few small chips in the grill but since the insurance was covering it, why not get it fixed as well? Thanks again!

I wonder if one of the outfits that does hail repair couldn't have handled it well for less. Had experience with them some years back, good and not too pricey. Of course time flies, and prices rise!

I had a single spot on my hood, where the paint was rubbed down to bare metal, no real dent. Was quoted by the dealers body shop $800 to repaint.
