Not sure if this subject has been discussed, so I apologize if it has been and I missed it. I am considering permanently attaching a battery desulfator to my 22 ram 5.7l [non-etorque] but concerned the high frequency signal used in the desulfation process may have detrimental effects on the electronics of my vehichle even though the manufacturer says it won't. Anyone in the forum have experience with using permanently attached desulfactors on these rams with all the electronics that are so easily ruined by unwanted electrical inputs?

First time I'm hearing of such a device. Does it greatly extend the life of the battery? If so, what is the cost of the one you are considering?

As for interference. The most I've seen any electronic interfere with my truck is a particular set of LED fog lights causing EMI on the truck which resulted in AM/FM radio interference on all channels. That being said, your battery does have a sensor (IBS) on it that may or may not react poorly to a directly attached device.

Why do you have concerns about sulfation buildup in your truck battery?

We used to use them periodically on SLAs used in underwater scooters because there was evidence of premature aging and failure due to sulfation.

AFAIK, sulfation is primarily attributed to very low current charging and extended periods of low or no current draw. The scooters would draw about 30 Amps when on the trigger but during some scooter trips in the river, we didn't have the trigger engaged for extended periods. The river has a significant current, drifting is commonly used in different locations.

And, scootering while cave diving was very dependent on the mission. Some, you're on the trigger full-time, others, on & off.

I would think the typical current draw from a truck starter motor would be sufficient to reduce the possibility of excessive sulfation buildup. Unless you trickle charge more often than road-tripping.

Also, sulfation was usually more problematic with age. Given that you live in Florida, I would expect the average life expectancy to be 2 to 3.5 years at the most. Unless you live in North Florida where it might last a wee bit longer.

the unit I am considering is a pulse king for $40. and yes it supposedly greatly extends the life of a battery by keeping the electrolite from separating back to water and acid separately [not in the combined state commonly referred to as electrolite]
