Ok so I am getting ready to do some mods to my 06 hemi. I am swapping the rear end out, who in their right mind would ever put an open diff on a supposed 4x4!! Anyway I am consider the Detroit Automatic locker.. Sounds almost like an on demand Posi... Have any of your tried this rear end or have any experience with it?

I have it. Great on long trucks. Makes turning around a pain if you need to press throttle. It's a beast in the mud. Doesn't make noise on high way.

So other than turning sharp and hitting the throttle its a good way to go? I do plan on doing some mudding with it when I get all my mods done

If you live where it snows/ices it will tend to make you fishtail a little when not in 4wd. But nothing worse than a limited slip.

Every once in a while you will hear a loud BANG... Don't fear the bang, love the bang... It is just the gears within ratcheting and locking.

Got one in my Jeep's 44 rear end and in a rock jock rear I just bought to upgrade to a Dana 60ish rear.

Detroits are pretty much bullet proof. They lock up in curves if you get on the throttle. Rarely ever hear of them breaking.

Ford used them from the factory in the 60's-70's muscle cars with 400+ horsepower.

A selectable locker tends to be more street friendly(ARB, zip locker, e-locker, ox locker, etc) but have a chance of issues(broken air lines, wires, etc)

When I had a jeep, I went from a No-Slip (lunchbox locker), to a full detroit, to eventually an ARB. You really do get what you pay for (in that order). A full detroit is a set it and forget it unbreakable (within reason) carrier. I just got tired of the bad road issues (it was a short wheel base jeep that saw winter).

I will keep saying it over an over until I'm blue in the face. There is nothing better than an open differential for 95% of driving (when driven on road), and there is nothing better than a locker when off road (and in the need of it). Selectable is the way to go if you drive on the streets.

If anyone gets an ARB locker, if you properly route the air lines, you will never have a problem from -30 degree weather up to 120+... With their compact compressor only used for the locker, you will have a lifetime of locking/unlocking.
