So the list of mods I want to do to the truck is almost complete!....well maybe. The
only things left that I'd like to add are a remote start and possibly a tuner. I'm looking at the Diablo Intune i3 and having the Stage 1 custom tune from Hemifever added to it. I already have a Pedal Commander, Carven Exhaust, and an AFE air filter. How much more performance can I expect to gain from the truck by going with the custom tune? Also, I've read several stories from guys saying that the tuners bricked their PCMs. Is this a widespread issue with the Diablo tuners? Just looking for some opinions before I drop the $$ on a tuner.

Thanks!

I have a 2014 and I bought the i3 and put the 91 tune in. I really couldn't tell much difference. I sent him my default tune and he did his magic and oh my what a difference. He also turned off MDS, programmed the transmission and tweaked the accelerator. No need for a pedal commander which is good because I couldn't handle that much money for what it doesn.

I have a 2012 and I bought the I3 and put the 91 octane canned tune shut off MDS, add a +20% throttle boost and turn rev limiter and speed limiter off. I could feel the difference but I was not totaly satisfied with the throttle sensitivity and the way my truck shifted. I finally contact HF for a stage 1 custom tune.

The custom tune is really amazing and my truck now is more responsive and run like hell . The engine seems to run smoother, the shift points and firmness have been optimized and the throttle sensitivity is way higher. I'm very satisfied.

I will install a 180 stat and they allready send me a modified tune to take account of it

I have an i3 on my 11 & am currently running the 91tune, +20% on pedal sensitivity and have mds shut off.

My truck runs great and produces great power when needed and 19 mpg as a daily driver.

While I may want a custom tune, I'm not certain I would be happier so I'm running what I got as, I don't drag race, I drive a ton of miles per week (in excess of 500) and some weeks several thousand so I'm trying to be happy with a middle ground approach.

I had a 2014 6.4L 2500 CC. I added the I2 and a custom tune from Hemifever.

The stock Diablosport canned tunes improved things a little bit but adding the Hemifever custom tune turned the 6.4L into a beast.

I'd do it all over again if I ever get another Hemi powered truck.

The things I noticed most were:

1. Much better throttle response
2. Higher torque value at lower RPMs
3. WOT shift points moved up in the RPM range
4. MDS was removed at my request

It'll get there a lot faster than you think if you got it from Moe's. Congrat's, I know you will be happy.

You won't get a custom tune with the programmer right off the bat.

1. You'll connect the programmer to your computer and update it.
2. You'll install the programmer on the truck and edit any settings you want to tweak, such as gears, tire sizes, etc...
3. You'll contact Hemifever and he will send you instructions for logging truck performance with the programmer.
4. You'll log truck performance, download those logs to your computer, then email them to Hemifever along with a note on what tune you loaded (I'd recommend the 91 octane tune) and let him know what other options you'd like, such as turning off MDS.
5. Hemifever will email you a tune file.
6. You will load that tune file on the programmer, then use the programmer to install it on your truck.
7. You will drive, log truck performance and send the second set of logs to Hemifever.
8. He will tweak the tune file and send you an updated one via email.
9. You will load the tweaked tune file on the programmer and then use the programmer to install it on your truck.
10. Now it's up to you to decide if you like the tune or if you want to tweak it again, following steps 4 through 6 yet again.

After you're all done with everything, do you have to keep the programmer device connected to the OBD2 port at all times to keep the tuner working? or can you just unplug it and the truck will still be tuned?

Also, are PCM and ECU the same thing?

Thanks

You do not have to leave the programmer plugged in to your ODB II port. The tunes are downloaded to your PCM and stored there. There is a backup of your OEM original tune kept on the programmer as well. You can unplug programmer, put it back in the box and set it on a shelf for future use. I'd recommend you plug the programmer into your PC and download a copy of your stock tune and any custom tunes to the PC as a backup.

A PCM (Powertrain Control Module) can be compared to a ECU (Electronic Control Unit) if that ECU is specific for an engine. I like the "CM" family of acronyms as they are specific, i.e., PCM = Powertrain Control Module, BCM = Body Control Module, TCM = Transmission Control Module.

Calling a box an ECU means you have to add a specific descriptor to the acronym to identify it, i.e., Engine ECU, Body ECU, Transmission ECU, etc...

Thanks. I was lookin at Hemi Fever custom tuning for my 2015 6.4L RAM, and it got me a little confused because I understand that the "engine?" ECU must be replaced by an unlocked one, but I also hear people talking about the PCM replacement for this specific tuning option. Even the email I got from Sean uses the both terms like this:

$75 Transmission tuning : http://www.hemifevertuning.com/DSP_p/dsp-zf8.htm

$1099 Trinity and ECU : https://www.hemifevertuning.com/ProductDetails.asp?ProductCode=DSP-Trinity-2015

$999 Intune i3 and ECU : http://www.hemifevertuning.com/diablo_intune_dcx_p/dsp-i3-dcx-2015.htm

(Not for California) $599 Intune i3 with PCM exchange : http://www.hemifevertuning.com/diablo_intune_dcx_p/dsp-i3-pcm-exchange.htm

(Not for California) $799 Trinity with PCM exchange : http://www.hemifevertuning.com/diablo_intune_dcx_p/dsp-trinity-pcm-exchange.htm

Are there TWO things that need to be replaced with this tune, or just one?

Just one box is replaced. He intermixes the PCM/ECU terms as many folks do.

You do need an unlocked PCM due to the encryption placed by FCA on your stock one.

You have two choices:

1) A tuner & an unlocked PCM/ECU where you exchange your stock PCM/ECU for an unlocked one. This is for specific 2015 to 2017 Dodge/Chrysler/Jeep vehicles. You receive an i3 and an unlocked PCM/ECU and have 14 days to ship back your factory unit, or

2) a tuner & an unlocked PCM/ECU where you keep your stock one in case you need to plug it in for a dealer inspection or service.

He lists two tuners in the info above being the I3 & the Trinity.

I has a custom tune for the Challenger and the end result was wonderful. I had the tune setup so the shift firmness would increase the farther the accelerator pedal was pushed. Soft shifts when driving easy, and a tire barker when into it. :)
Nothing like the old manual shift 727 trans in the Cuda. It would bark the tires all the time.
