I meant to do this the first day I bought my truck, but you know how that goes. I wanted to add corrosion protection to my truck since I plan on keeping it a long time. I protected areas that typically rust first. Here is what I did:
1. I washed the inside/bottom of the bed/fender area behind rear wheels and let it dry
2. Wiped areas with solvent to make sure surface was clean
3. Masked off areas to protect from overspray
4. Sprayed two coats of 3M undercoating
5. I removed every-other rubber plug from the rocker panels (runs under the doors from front to rear of cab)
6. I removed the interior tailgate panel
7. Used a paint/rust prevention product from Eastwood that has a flexible wand that can be inserted in small places to distribute product in areas 5 & 6 above (here is a link: Eastwood Rust Encapsulator w/ext Nozzle Black )
I also sprayed this up and around the rear wheel well openings and the small fender area between the fender and door down low. I only applied one coat but probably should have done two (ran out of daylight and it was getting too cold to apply).
If you do this, be careful b/c the product will drip out from the rubber plugs in the rocker panels and onto the ground. It will also run down the body in few places down low but is easily removed when wet with acetone.
