I had signed up for a 5 year plan and paid 1/2 the cost up front. I answered the email flyer they kept sending me. I got one just about every day. The flyer said it was on sale so I called Mopar, and I got a discount right off the top of $100. The total cost was $1000 and with the discount it would be $900. So I paid $450 as a down payment, that would leave $450 left to pay, right? Wrong, a day or two after agreeing to the extended warranty, I got copies of the contract and the rest of the paperwork. I first noticed the balance was $550. When they gave me the discount, they tacked on a $99 admin fee for writing up the contract. I was not told about this charge. I also found out I was enrolled in automatic deduction from my checking account to pay the balance that I never agreed to. That never came up in the conversation nor did the admin fee tacked on. So OK so far not that big of a deal. I was going to pay this off next payday. But I continued reading and discovered that they sold me a five year plan , and 2 of those years, was part of the 3 year warranty already in effect that came with the truck. What I am saying is I had 2 years left on the original warranty, they tacked on 3 years and called it a 5 year warranty. So they sold me 2 years that was already mine. I expected to have a 7 year warranty when I finished. But that didn't happen. So I called them to talk about this, I wasn't happy. But the person who sold me the plan was never there. I sent several emails and phone calls and got no response. So I called my bank and disputed the payment already made, and canceled their automatic payment plan they signed me up for. I was looking for a extended warranty, to add to my already had plan. I wasn't looking to pay them for 2 years of a plan I already owned. I have never heard of something like that. They might as well had tried to sell me the truck I already owned. I have a year left on the original warranty and will look for another plan with another company soon.
I think a lot of folks are surprised a bit by this when they buy an extended policy for the first time. The mopar extended policy includes a few extra things in those factory warranty years, like rental car. But yeah, if you buy an 8 year max care policy, it really is only 5 years of extra bumper-to-bumper coverage.

Purchased lifetime maxcare for my 2017. Paid about $2600 for it.

Still in factory power train warranty but outside of bumper to bumper at this point. Truck has only needed a replacement heated mirror glass and brake light leak fix which were covered under bumper to bumper.

I bought the warranty because of all the electronics, transmission and engine. What will be interesting is if they go bad in the future because I do my own maintenance. Curious if that will be used to deny coverage, though it doesn't seem to be an issue for most people.

So far I haven’t gotten the pleasure of using my lifetime warranty yet because my 3 year/36,000-mile factory warranty just ran out about right now and so far the only warranty work I’ve had to have was getting my headliner replaced but, that’s not really why I bought the warranty in the first place. The decision to get it was due to this 8-speed transmission having that “lifetime fill” on the fluid that’s in it, and the air suspension my truck has that’s been very problematic for a lot of people.

I purchased the extended warranty. For these reasons, Have 50 freak-n airbags, Electric park brake, Ready-alert braking?, Electronic roll Mitigation, Uconnect ( already had trouble with this..), A/C Auto temp control with dual zone, Power heated mirrors, control module for the transmission (had this updated also) and the big one MDS with etorque engine (how long will this battery last?). I have never had a truck with all these electronic systems on it. Now do not get me wrong, I really like this truck. It has made me really rotten. Just better to be prepared. Retirement is just around the corner!!!!!!!!

Roger that! And there are dozens more electronic computer controlled doo dads that are nearly impossible for the average shade tree mechanic to fix.

Bought a 2016 Ram 6.7 Cummins (98,000 miles), about 6 months ago. Paid $3800 for extended warranty (Endurance). Have had almost $9,000 worth of work done (ERG coolant leak, Oil leak front end and ECU Actuator). My cost? $200.00. First time I have ever had an extended warranty on a vehicle, but damn glad I have this one.

Ironically, just received an email from MOPAR offering $3K on a new vehicle (extra) or $2,500 cash in exchange for cancellation of my MOPAR protection plan.

I’ll be keeping mine.

Is it one of the lifetime policies?

I'm glad I dragged my feet on this now. Got an email today offering $150 through tomorrow at https://chryslerwarrantydirect.com/. So I went ahead with it. $1800 for 8yr/100k Max Care with $100ded. The code, if anyone is interested, is 2020DEAL.

I appreciate everybody's input, from both sides of the fence. Thanks much.

How did you get that? The link shows the cost to be $2395 and using the $150 "2020DEAL" makes the cost $2245. And that price is for a 1500...your signature indicates you have a 2018 Ram 2500...the cost is higher on the 2500's especially when two years old like yours. Help me understand how you're getting a 8 yr/125K Maxcare warranty for $1800.

My truck is a certified pre-owned. So the power train warranty was already extended out to 7yr/100k. They have some different policies available for that which are, of course, cheaper.

EDIT: I'm getting 8yr/100k, not 8yr/125k. I only drive about 7500 miles a year on my 3/4 tons. We have other vehicles to use when not towing.

It wasn’t my truck but I had an unlimited mile warranty on my drivetrain for a grand caravan van I drove a lot for work. At 150k the trans went out and they rebuilt it for a $100 ded then 3k miles later it died again so they replaced it with a new one with no ded, I had the water pump replaced at 175k which required a timing chain replacement for $100 ded, New radiator at 190k, new alternator around that mileage. Funny though the heater lines started leaking and that wasn’t part of the power train so had to replace myself.
My mom drives it now at 270k miles and we left it in my name so if something happens we can still take it in. Prolly one of the reasons they stopped doing those plans.
I also had an unlimited/lifetime power train warranty on a 2017 Pacifica I bought new but I ended up trading it and got my money back.
I think the power train warranty is worth it but the max care I’ve never purchased so can’t attest to it. However with the elimination of the lifetime/unlimited choices I would probably not purchase another myself.
You are my hero
I just didn’t have the time to deal with it anymore. Lifetime warranty and after 3,years of never having a clean vehicle because it was constantly in the shop I lemoned it. lifetime was a great deal but if the vehicle is so bad the dealer tells you to lemon it because they can’t fix it the warranty doesn’t mean much. Well if your time is valuable. Can’t fault the process, I was well taken care of . I guess all manufacturers have lemons. If I had more time I would do what you’re doing and kept taking it back. Hate losing a lifetime warranty. Incredible deal, wish they’d bring it back.

Spron, congratulations on coming out ahead. I wish everyone was so lucky.

But your $9k in repairs cost you $4000, not the $200 you said. It also cost you the interest on the loan, if you didn’t pay cash. I’d bet anyone, anything they want to lose that there was a lot of price gouging, once the repair shop heard “extended warranty “. You should have gotten a kick back on that gouging, but I’ll bet you didn’t.

$12,000 for an engine? (Previous post) Lol. Man the warranty provider got screwed blue on that one, too. I’m all for screwing the warranty companies. That’s just a little payback for all the guys who lost money on that gamble.

never really looked into the extended warranty I thought that when your factory warranty runs out then you can get the extended warranty but I do not know how much that costs and yes I guess you could just stash money away each month for a fix it fund only

You can get it up to 48 months and so many miles if I am correct, but the price goes up and if you bought the truck new or certified pre-owned, the extended warranty starts from 0 miles NOT the miles when you bought the warranty.
Used vehicles extended warranty mileage starts at mileage at purchase.
This is for the MOPAR service contract.

I would have paid for the lifetime warranty if it was available in Canada. Unfortunately mine only lasted 7 years and all I really got out of it was a couple tail gate latches and a new backup cam.

Now that the truck is paid off (Officially today as a matter of fact ) I expect a good chunk of my truck payments to turn into maintenance payments. I already have an inner tie rod waiting for installation and two rear brake slippers in the mail. Sometimes **** just breaks.

I get why people buy extended warranties but I'm having a hard time believing in this day and age that a $50,000 truck won't be trouble free for a measly 100,000-125,000 miles.

Obviously with the comments made on this thread there can be problems at any mileage, but I suspect these are the exceptions.

I have owned two new Toyotas recently. Bought them back to back, trouble free for a total of 400,000 miles (200k average).

I got to believe most most brands of new vehicles can go at least 125k without problems. I would think most problems would shake out within the bumper to bumper warranty period anyhow. For this reason I am going to gamble by not buying the EW.

If Ram still offered the lifetime warranty I might think differently because I love my 2019 Laramie and would consider keeping it for many years with a lifetime EW. As it is I'll probably trade it in within the basic warranty period and return to Toyota. The Toyotas don't have as many features and are not as comfortable, but between the reliability and resale value they are much more cost effective. Not to mention the built in "Peace of Mind".

EDIT: I bought a 2014 Ram 1500 new and put 55,000 mi on it, I have 24,000 mi on my 2019. Not a lot of miles on either one but I am happy to say no problems to report.

I bought the lifetime bumper to bumper. I do not plan on trading this truck in (my last one was a '89) and being in GA the sheet metal will last longer than when I was in Buffalo.
It's piece of mind for me.

Life insurance policies dont charge you interest if you paid one set price on warranties it would be great. but what's often done is you buy the warranty for let's say 3 grand. After they add it to the length of the loan you end up paying over 5.5 thousand for something you may or may not use smh
