so, some of us got new gears via a group buy last month. on top of the 4:56 gears, im sure others, like myself, are going to upgrade the stock limited slip differential in the rear. i am still kinda torn as to which one to get. the only options i am aware of are the auburn, detroit(eaton), or power trax. i guess the question for this thread would be, what is everyone else getting and why. partially to get the info about what others are going with and to help new members, or ones that decide to go the gears rout. and..... to help me make my own damn mind up lol

I was gonna go with the Auburn because of the price, but noticed Power Trax No Slip is only 40 dollars more, and the detroit isn't too bad either. So hopefully we get some opinions in here to help make up my mind too!

detroit cause you dont have to deal with the springs and ******** in the auburn and you dont have to use any additives

Get what you pay for :p? Probably going to end up going with the Detroit. I could afford them, but I hate draining my account. So I'll wait a little.

Exactly. Okay, know nothing about gears and differentials and what not, but sounds good to me. Just gotta wait another week or so! I think I can do that. Haha.

Yeah, that's who I'll be getting to install mine as soon as I get the differential. Didn't even know I should've gotten one until he said something.

**** i wish it was only gonna take me a week to save up the dough to get the detroit......... or any of em for that matter lol. the power trax would probably end up costing the same if not more than the detroit, they gotta take the stock diff apart and install new guts right?

they pop the cover off, clean out the axle and remove the old gears and if you had the stock lsd that too then install the new detroit/auburn/powertrax and gears.

so the stock diff gets removed not beefed

My 2 cents..... Cost was not a factor for me.

Auburn = Street & (Ford Friction Modifier / Why not its good stuff and recommended) and 100 Bucks Cheaper on avg vs DTT.

DTT = Excellent and said to be the better of the two.... HD for off-Roading but you may not like the way it Turns on street application (just what I read so thats why I went Auburn). Also on the 1500's can not be paired up with a front "Brother" like the Bigger HD SFA Trucks.

No matter what it will definately be a good thing if you upgrade!

Power-Trax...Dunno

Being 17 has its advantages. Don't have any other bills to pay, so can use the money on the truck.

When I purchase the TrueTrac, am I going to need another install kit also, or will the Gears Group Buy master install kit cover that too?

master kit covers that. it's new seals, bearings, and shims for the pinion gear. there was bolts in there too, not 100% what that was about

From Experience, recommend you Guys also spend the extra 90 Bucks, regardless of mileage and replace the outer Diff housing wheel bearings/pressed Races to avoid any costly horror stories afterwards! Later danny.

Not sure what you're talking about. But I'll see if I can find it.

Long story short, I had assumed they were done, and by the time I was done personnally troubleshooting changing 1/2 shafts, 4x4 bearings and front driveshaft i had them tear open the rear and the left rear axle was chewed and bearings fell on the floor, it came real close to having to scrap the entire housing but was able to debur and get the new race installed, however it still turned slightly so some real expensive epoxy was used to keep it in there. Its been 6 months, with plenty of hard launches and driving at 80 MPH on the freeway and no problems since but if there is ever a next time I will need a new diff housing.

extra parts cost for the delema was about 1,300 bucks as the labour for tearing the rear pumpin appart was free.
