Disable entry alarm.

Hi, New to the forum. Hoping I'm posting this in the right area.

Purchased a 2012 Laramie used. Only came with one key fob. Couple of weeks ago the fob started failing when trying to lock or unlock the doors. Took the fob apart, cleaned the contacts and put it all back together. The unlock button worked a little better but still is not reliable. The lock button still wouldn't work at all. When I had the fob opened, the gold or copper covered contacts looked very worn so I wasn't overly surprised.

So, given that the unlock button still functioned (sometimes I had to press it several times to get to work) I started locking the truck by pressing the lock button on the arm rest. Well, now the unlock button doesn't work at all and when, of course, when I open the door with the key, the alarm goes off until I place the fob into the ignition. I don't want to spend $600 buck to get a new fob and have it programed. I really have no problem with locking and unlocking the doors manually but I need a way to stop the alarm going off at 5:30 in the morning when I'm leaving for work. And any other time for that matter. I would have no problem with deactivating the alarm completely.

If anyone knows if this is possible or has another work around for this I would be thankful. So would my neighbors.

Welcome to the forum. Does your vehicle have proximity lock and unlock. It is activated to unlock by touching the front door handle, and locks by pressing a small button on the right side of the outside door handle. If it does, you can lock and unlock without setting off the alarm. If not, you will need the dealer to deactivate, or AlphaOBD and an OBD reader. Total about $100. Yours is a 2012, so no security cable is needed.

Also, a new Fob is nowhere near $600 here in Canada. I bought one for my 2021 at the dealer, and they programed it, was about $270. Just make sure if you buy one you get an OEM, the ones off Amazon etc fail about 80% of the time. Other option is to get one from the locksmith that you have program it. The locksmith is about 60% of the cost of buying a FOB from the dealer. If you are near Edmonton I can recommend a good locksmith.

It just occurred to be that if I lock all the doors manually with the pull pins and use the key when I enter the alarm doesn't go off. A pain in the butt but it works and saves me $600. Probably just a matter of time before I lock the keys in the truck though...

Lock all doors with the electric button on the drivers door armrest. Open the drivers door, get out, lock that one with the silver knob and close the door. Alarm will not be activated and you don't have to go around to each door. Make sure you have a spare key in a magnetic box, somewhere on the outside because you will lock your keys in eventually and that will cost as much as a new FOB.

Maybe I'm remembering the cost of the fob incorrectly. My wife thought it would be a good idea to have a spare one (in retrospect, probably a good idea but don't tell her that) so I called a dealer here in Toronto. I thought they said it was about $500 plus tax. Maybe I'll revisit the idea of getting a new one.

The FOBs for the 20212 s are way cheaper than for the 2021s, you should probably be about $150 at the locksmith and about $220 at the dealer all in and programmed. If you have remote start, add 50 bucks for the OEM Fob

You can buy OEM off Ebay as long as you find a good trusted seller with lots of ratings. There are lots of knockoffs on there too. Problem is, if you supply the FOB, whoever tries to program it will charge you whether it accepts the programming or not. Personally I just buy them from the dealer or the programming locksmith. My time is worth more than the futzing around for 50 bucks.

I would check with some others dealers, or locksmith. In your area should be a few.
I have mine set up so when I open my door all others will unlock,
But on my 2014 you can change that setting with the radio controls.
I think having all other doors stay locked is the factory setup is.

If you have the fob apart again , really look close to make sure the cck board has no cracks or poor looking solder joints, they can be repaired if needed.

Having just one is asking for a long walk, I would make sure to get 2 fobs with anything I bought
