My wife worked for State Farm for about 30 years...their office used to give out those deer whistles to customers for free. I thought it was a gimmick, but after all that time, her clients all kept coming in looking for more for kids/grandkids vehicles. They swore they worked and far as I know, none of her clients or families ever hit a deer. This is in rural Missouri where it is almost a daily occurrence. And as an insurance agent, they must have thought highly of these little devices...they gave them out like candy and they were convinced that it kept them from having to do all that paperwork for claims on a deer strike!!

Jus' Sayin'. . . plus its small cost and unobtrusive even if they just MIGHT work.

Part of the misconception of the effectiveness of deer whistles stems from it's intended use vs people's expectations.
They aren't designed to frighten deer out of your way. The last thing you want is a panicked animal.
That's part of why so many get hit.
Today's cars run so quietly that deer don't always realize they are there till they are right on top of them and then they do what scared deer do-they bolt.
The high frequency whistle is supposed to alert the unwary deer that something is approaching, hopefully giving them time to vacate or at least not be startled when it arrives.
In our high deer population area of North East Iowa most people agree they work as intended.

125 lbs isn't too bad. My friend that hit a deer with his F150 ended up adding a bumper that was in the 400 lb range. maybe it was made of lead? :)
I just added a grill guard, not the whole bumper combo.

Years ago I had aluminum Aussie Bull Bars on an 87 Isuzu Trooper. I had people who whipped in front of me and stopped before I could react. Bull Bars fine, compact cars totaled 2.
