So I've been reading about the Hill Start Assist which is currently turned on in my truck. However, I'm mixed about whether it's a good feature or not. On one hand, I can see how it might be useful. On the other hand though, I'm not sure I want the truck making that decision.

I keep mine on all the time and I tested it while launching .and while taking the boat out of the water on steep boat ramps ...it works , but imo it's not really needed with an automatic xsmn .
With a standard xsmn I'd see how it would be beneficial .
I live in NE Tennessee so lots of redlights and stopsigns on a good incline and I think it works well in those situations as well , but like I said with an automatic xsmn it's not required imo..

I have no idea if mine is on or off. I voted haven't thought about it. Agree with rlk, not really needed with an auto trans. If you know how to drive a manual, it's still not needed.

It works nice for launching/retrieving a boat, no need to two-foot it.
It's not one of those "must have" options but it's nice to have.

I agree it does work on the boat ramp [emoji106]
It keeps the brake pressure on a bit to keep you from rolling back prior to you applying enough throttle to advance forward or rearward .
It works the same way at a stop sign/light on an incline or decline to keep from rolling backwards or forward .

It is not necessary, however you would be stupid not to use it when you have a 8 ton boat behind your tuck at a steep launching ramp. For how I use the truck I cannot think of a situation when I would not want the HSA turned off.

Out of curiosity what would be a situation when you would want the HSA system turned off?

Just gotta ask,as I've seen you doing this for awhile, and you're about the only guy I see using the term.Just curious why you call a transmission "xsmn",it's not a very common term, lol

Sorry I've been an aviation mechanic for nearly 30 years and it's common in aviation ...my bad [emoji106]
It's shorter to type or write out is why I do it here . I believe most folks get transmission out of xsmn ??? Not sure though , if it's confusing I do apologise Sir !

Does my 2013 has this hill assit?

I think my renal Chevy equinox had it, and it was cute. As long as you're comfortable driving and have a good feel on your truck, it should be easy enough to control your truck without the "hill assit" . I would opt out.

I do like the "rear traffic detection warning" though and wish I'd had that.

Although, I can see how hill assit could be beneficial for people who aren't comfortable driving and are afraid of hills such as my mom and grandma.

My truck has the Hill assist option, coming from a truck that didn’t have it I got used to having to two feet the hills. First time hill assist kicked in a thought my tranny was about to drop out the bottom. (Wasn’t expecting the hill assist, didn’t know it was there etc) While hill assist is a nice idea the delay before the break releases is too large of a delay for me to feel comfortable so I turned it off. I think if I could customize that delay it would make the option more palatable but overall I prefer to be in control of braking and acceleration instead of the truck doing the “thinking” for me.

Just my two cents.

Glad you got it , I've used ( xsmn ) at least [emoji817] times within my 10k+ post here and you were the first to comment on it [emoji848][emoji848]this make me assume most ( 50+%) get it ? Right away ?
I'm not ******* you my friend , I'm just saying others understand what I'm saying and they still choose to spell out transmission as opposed to xsmn ...

How do you know if you have it? I assume it’s a button by the tow haul/tcs buttons.

My truck doesn’t have a physical button, it’s located in settings. I’ll have to go find it when I’m heading out later.
