Hey all, going to head to Friday night drags here in a few weeks and was curious about what everyone's preferred method is for getting the best launch/run in. I tried a search but didn't see this topic come up.

For context, I drive a 4wd Sport Crew Cab with 3.21 non-lsd rear axle, leveled/lifted slightly on 34 AT" tires.

I was thinking it'd be best to launch in 4wd Lock (or Auto) with Traction Control off. Probably drop the tire pressure just a bit too. And what about the tonneau cover? Rolled up or closed bed?

Launch in 4 auto, pump your tires up to 50psi,unless you got a ****load of boost or nitrous you're not going to have traction issues on 4 wheel launch.Launch off dead idle, the convertor flashes higher and the engine won't pull timing as much as loading it up on the convertor. If you're still stock cam, start hitting the shift buttons at 5800 if you have the 8 speed,it should shift about 6000 then.Pull the tailgate/tonnue/spare tire, and if you're ambitous the seats that you're not sitting in. Junk the plastic engine cover, all it does is heat soak the intake manifold, and open the hood between rounds. If you have power mirrors, hit the switch and fold them in.Pull the front swaybar,it only weighes roughly 14lbs on the 4X4's,but it restricts front end rise.Try to get the fuel tank down to around a 1/4 tank .Try to drive around the water box, then do a short little hop to clean the tires,'do not' do a smokey burn-out with street tires, that just makes them hot and slippery, all you want to do is clean the rocks off the tires with a little short hop,not heat them.Shallow stage and leave no later then the third yellow, gives you more run at the top-end timers, depending on how your truck reacts, you might get away with leaving on the 2nd yellow.

"leaving on the last yellow light" is the best tip anyone could ever give a drag racer! Someone gave me that tip back in the mid 80's and its one I never forgot. That's the best and easiest way to get a quick reaction time that there is.

I have a 2011 rc ram with 392 posi , flowmaster hd50 single exhaust, k&n drop in filter and superchips flashpak tuner sat at 87 octane tune. Leave with traction control on, flash converter from idle, shift at 6,000 rpm. 2.05 60 ft time, [email protected] mph. Made 5 runs all 14.01-14.06. start with shift lever in 3rd, Shift 3rd to 4th gear manually an it shifts from 2-4 with 5 speed.
