On a short in town trip today with my 2019 Ram Hemi , all of a sudden I heard what sounded like a drone sound which increased in volume as the engine rpm increased. It appeared to be coming from either the engine or perhaps the transmission. I immediately looked at the dash and no check engine light was present. Leaving from the next traffic light, no drone sound, however, 5 minutes later it was back. 1,650 miles on the truck and of course under warranty. PUZZLED

it was probably the ANC, it sounds like its coming from the engine but its actually not. There's a TSB for it on the gen 5s, sounds like pretty much exactly what you described.

Dealer told me the ANC turns off if you put your window down. He told me next it happens, put my window and see if it stops. I had no codes and dealer could duplicate it. There is a software update for early Rams for it, mine had the correct software.

I understand why that sound was concerning, goldeneyee. If you end up going into the dealer or just have a question in general, let us know. We're available via direct message and would be happy to help.

there is a lot of chatter about this on forums. some, including me have disabled the anc by unplugging the overhead mics. I would get that droning noise around 60-65 on straight flat roads. all good now. some have had success with the dealer doing a reprogram.

Have 2019 Ram Big Horn. Experiencing the loud droning noise. Is at the dealer for the 3rd time. Noise is faint until you put items or people in the back seat. Droning noice is getting louder and more frequent. I would not have purchased a crew cab if I did not need to use the back seat. Disgusted!!!!

Been dealing with the drone/growling noise since new. I have been a mechanic most of my life and thought from day one it is the trans or transfer case. Intermittent so hard to pinpoint. Shut truck off and it goes away until it does it again. Might be a couple days or a couple months in between. Not the ANC since disabling it has no effect. Not MDS also. Been to dealer 4-5 times already for re-flash/TSB's to try and solve. Service manager has the same truck and same problem. Was told it is in the transmission and FCA is well aware but have no answer or fix for it. I have a case with FCA which they closed since it made the 10 mile ride home from the dealer without the drone noise. Is it a safety issues or a simple annoyance? Don't know yet but case closed or not I am not accepting there answer for $50K. Will get fixed or truck will go away.

Hello, please know that I would be more than happy to escalate on your behalf to get you connected with a specialist who can work alongside both you and your dealer while your truck is in service. Please follow up with me via private message to get the process started.

Hi BSVmopar, your frustration is completely understandable. If you move forward with addressing this again, please be sure to let me know via private message. I would like to get a case escalated on your behalf as well if it would be of interest.

i had this on mine and actually started the lemon law they told me there was no fix for the problem! the Droning Noise was so bad it hurt my ears. it was only at certain mph's though. I took it back twice and on the third time Ram came up with a flash for the tranny to correct the shift points. Thank god! and it fixed the problem! i would have hated to give up my Ram i have been a DODGE / RAM owner for a long time and it would have killed me to go to another brand so im glad they fixed it.
