When I first bought my truck I wanted to lift it like any guy with a 4wd would do..after a year of ownership, and 10k miles of underpowered cruising, I figured lifting it would only make it worse..I'm coming from a single cab Chevy cammed and sprayed so I felt a power difference right away.. Yesterday I saw a friends express single cab with a 2/4 drop and loved the look.. I want to do something like that but everything I see is just for 2wd trucks.. My question is, how would I go about dropping my 4wd?? I would like a 2/4 drop or possibly a 3/5 if they are available. Also how low could I go before having to worry about my 4x4 not working??

Ground frorce makes a 2/3 lowering kit for the 4wd. Is it a 1500 or 2500?

Why would 4x4 stop working??
My wife is gonna PISSED if our 4x4 stops working just because I didn't want the back end to look like a cat in heat.

Man, you get busy at work and miss out on a lot. If you want any info for bringing a 4wd any lower than 2/4 just let me know, mine's sitting 4/6 right now with fully functional 4wd and no CV issues.

It's not that difficult, just be prepared to spend the money to do it properly. The rear is easy, you can use the McG's deluxe spindle kit and their 4" rear drop spring nets you almost a perfect 6" on the 4wd. I recommend replacing the panhard bar and the rear control arms with the adjustable spohn ones so you can align the rear properly and recenter the wheels.

The front is the hard/annoying part if you go lower than 2" because you HAVE to replace the spindle because you can't cut down the front drop springs. You can use the 2wd and drop 1" more for a 3" drop and not have any CV joint issues, but I used the GF 2" drop springs coupled with the McG's spindles to get it down 4" then you need to deal with the upper balljoint, and I used the MMW upper arms but you can use any upper arm with a uni-ball the same as the guys with a spacer that are popping ball joints. After that you need to look at the inner CV joint as that gets some serious angle to it, luckily Kore makes a high angle inner CV for the lifted trucks that works just dandy on the lowered ones too, just in the opposite direction.

I played around with the Hellwig air springs but I couldn't get them to ride properly for the height I wanted and I was on the bump stops all the time, so they got taken out today in favor of a cut down set of the 2" McG's rear springs and I have a working suspension again, though with a new set of spring pocket isolators the rear is noisy as hell with the old urethane Spohn bushings, which will be changed out for a set of their delrin bushings and del-sphear joint, a nice upgrade from their 1st gen bushings.

Have a look at my build log for more info

Tasty looking truck! I love how you color matched the front fascia and mirrors but left the grill alone. I haven't seen one like that. And the tires look great with that drop.

Thats not a color matched facia my friend. That would be the Sport front bumper..

defiantly is one sharp looking rig none the less
