I bought this catch can from eBay:

I was looking for a low cost alternative to the popular BT catch can. The BT catch can looks awesome and per the testimonials of many Ram owners on this forum, it works perfectly and is installed in about 5 min. The only downside is the price.

I wanted a catch can but I didn't want to part with $135 to do it.

Upon receiving and inspecting my $20 catch can I observed, as I expected, that it was definitely not a billet piece of art :)

I also noticed that it had no filter like the BT

I bought a package of chore boy scrubbers to serve as my filterImageUploadedByTapatalk1383350421.242134.jpg

I stuffed the "filters" into my catch can and voila!

So all told, it cost me $20 for the can, free shipping, $15 for the hose and $1 for the chore boy filters.
$36 total

I will follow up at the beginning of Dec to see how much oil I caught.

My impression after installing it is that it doesn't look bad, in fact, it kind of disappears into the engine bay.

Sorry, one last thing I forgot.

The sight tube on the side that is supposed to show how much oil is in the can leaked like crazy when I filled the can with water to test it. I plugged it with hot glue and that stopped the leaking.

Not bad. Is it actually metal, or some sort of plastic or delrin? Also does it have a petcock, or way of draining it?

Reason being, I'm looking for a simple catch can for the CTD. Not really wanting anything special. Looks like it'll do the job well! :waytogo:

Very nice! That is a clean install.
Does it have a drain plug or do you have to remove the entire thing to empty it?

It's all metal except for the useless sight tube.

It does have a drain plug. If you look closely you can see it in the first pic of the first post. Top left in pic.

The BT can is a work of art/show piece but for something like this I prefer clean and original looking and I think you hit the mark. It looks like it serves that purpose and will function well also.

BTW, since it seems to be such a hot topic...when I say show piece I mean that it looks very nice, I'm not implying that it serves no purpose and only looks nice.

That looks good! When I was in the Catch Can market I was tempted to get one of those. Looks like a winner to me! Nice job!

Nice install!

This is the one I went with:
Cylinder Billet Aluminum Racing Engine Oil Catch Tank Can Reservoir Hose Grey | eBay

Like yours, there was no filter inside. Copper chore boy fixed that. Works great. I installed a pet **** valve from a junk backflow preventer I had laying around and plugged the side tube holes with pvc threaded plugs painted black.

Good stuff. I plan to plug the side tube holes better myself and install a petcock. Unfortunately I don't have them laying around :)

I have been debating on getting a catch can because the BTs are so expensive but this looks just as good at a fraction of the cost. Keep us updated!

ATTENTION!

Anyone thinking about going this route:

Make sure the can you buy can be opened on at least one end. Some of them are completely sealed except for the in/out and drain and have no way to add a filter. On other forums they said the cans work with no filter. I don't know, but IF they work with no filter then a filter will only make them work better.

It appears as though your link has generated enough traffic on Ebay that your value catch can is now $60. lol

ImageUploadedByTapatalk1383407063.721927.jpg

Yeeeeeeah.

I think they only partially understand the magic of capitalism. The correct move would be to raise the price to maybe $25 or $30 at the most, still cheap but more profit. I bet they never sell one for $60.

Well folks, I will be the first to say, UNDER NO CIRCUMSTANCES is this can worth SIXTY FREAKIN DOLLARS!! If it had been that much I would have bought a BT. Or maybe an air compressor filter like this:
ImageUploadedByTapatalk1383407323.888627.jpg

I've never installed one of these but others on here have. Don't buy the tiny one though. Guys on other forums said they fill up too fast. Buy one like the one in the picture. It was like $30 at Home Depot. Of course you will also have to figure out how to mount it and buy some hose and fittings. Probably cost you $50 in the end.

Sorry folks. If you search "universal catch can" on eBay, you can still find one like I bought for $30 from other sellers. Just be sure it can be opened to add filter medium.
