I have a 2023 Ram 1500 classic SLT and when I place it in tow/haul mold is it normal for the Eco mode to still come on

Pretty sure the Eco light is just a dummy light for when you are coasting. You can turn it off in the truck settings if you dont want to see it. If you are asking if Tow/Haul should turn off MDS then no it does not

ECO light seems to operate just like a vacuum gauge "economy zone" idiot light (they had those 50 years ago). Just because it's on, doesn't mean MDS is activated. I can hear the MDS kick on and off thru the exhaust and it's not the same as the ECO light.

The Eco light is a visual indicator that the truck is operating in its most fuel-efficient mode due to the MDS being active. they are not two different things. If I remember correctly, on the Classic, 2018 and after, the tow/haul button no longer turns off the MDS, you will have to manually select your gear range to turn it off.

You do have it confused. The dash light (at least on my '16) has nothing to do with MDS. It is just an indication of a high vacuum / fuel economy combo of throttle position and engine low load. Vehicles have had that light for 40 or 50 years, depending on manufacturer.

The light will come on below 30 mph, but the MDS won't come on till 35 or so. The Tow button never did turn off the MDS in '16.

I can actually hear the stumble in the exhaust when it kicks in and the change from 4 to 8 when it kicks out and does not correlate with the idiot light on the cluster

My truck doesn't have any of it's MDS system left including the majority of the MDS wiring harness, but it still turns on the Eco light. As 04 states above, they're 2 differant systems
