Have a 2009 6.7L Diesel with 6 speed auto transmission. When I'm in Drive, I can touch the button on the selecter arm and shift to the lower gears. But, when I do that it automatically starts at 1st gear and then, with each subsequent press, works up to 6th and back to D. It used to start at 5th and work down. This is a problem if I'm doing 40mph and want to go to 5th or 4th. What happened and how do I fix it?

Mine goes to what ever gear truck is currently in when I hit down on mine then I have to hit up to go back up to say 5th or wait till I am in 5th to do mine.

Does it also act the same if you are in tow haul? The use of tow haul may take away the desire to use manual shifter as well.
