Howdy,

The time it takes to reach normal operating temperature is quite long on my new to me 2014 1500 with the 5.7 (94K miles). I’m wondering if the thermostat needs replaced or is it just a quirk of the engine. My other vehicles are warmed up at around 2 miles or so. The truck is still around 175 degrees after ten miles in 40 deg. F. weather.
Any thoughts?

Thanks,

BT

What are we talking about coolant or oil? I don't think I ever had a vehicle reach 204 at 2 miles though, I don't see any reason to worry.

Seems like a long time to me.. I don't know that I've looked at the numerical temperature value recently but it seems like about 2 miles of driving (through a small city) has the engine hot enough I need to turn down the heat in the cab at sub-freezing temps outdoors.

Depends on where you live. 2 miles of city driving where it takes let's say 15 minutes to drive those 2 miles or 2 miles of county roads which takes 2-3 minutes run time. Living in the country with just county roads mine takes about 10 minutes about 10-12 miles.

Howdy,

I was referring to engine coolant, details are important and I usually manage to forget one or two...

Thanks,
BT

Thanks for the info, I'm in the country so I guess the ten or twelve miles isn't too unusual for the truck.
Thanks Again,
BT

In 40 degree weather it probably takes mine every bit of 10 min to warm up. Also depends on how hard I’m running the engine. If I’m keeping the rpms up high it will warm up faster than just going easy. Doesn’t sound like you have anything to worry about.
