I've been having an intermittent problem lately where I turn the key and it takes a second or two for the starter to engage. Now I turn the key and it won't even start. Clutch in, out, turn the key, take it out, put it back in turn it and it starts. I haven't been able to find a pattern that makes it work, but doing all of the above over and over I can usually get it to crank. Once running, it runs fine until I'm driving and I take it out of gear, it drops to 500rpm.

1st issue: Starting
I've replaced the alternator, the battery was bench tested and was "over charged". I replaced the ignition switch sensor that connects on the back side (left side of column) behind where your key and ignition. The problem still exists. It acts almost as if I were trying to start the car without using the clutch. I'm going to check my Neutral safety switch next to see if that's the problem. Any other ideas?

2nd issue: rpm dropping
I will access this after I fix the first issue.
Assuming this could be related, but if not, possibly a TPS?

Sounds like your clutch position switch is sticking. Find a wiring diagram for it and determine if it's a NO or a NC type switch, set up a multimeter and check to make sure the switch opens or closes every time it's cycled by the clutch pedal.
