Just installed hid kit low beam on 16 laramie with projectors... I noticed the low beams get brighter when the high beams are on. Is that normal? And are both low and high suppose to be on when on high?*

The low beam has a solenoid which angles the projector higher and the high beams also turn on.

Low beam is on when low beam activated, it should and will not get brighter with high beam. The high beam via the projector is a solenoid that uncovers the other half of the projector bowl and allows additional light out of the projector. At the same time this is happening when the high beam is activated the high beam bulb 9005 is activated along side.

So the additional brightness your seeing (when high beam activates) is that the solenoid flaps down allowing more "blocked" light to exit the projector as well as activating the high beam bulb along side the projector.

Yes both low and high beams are on when highs are activated.

I never noticed... but do both bulbs stay on high stock?

Yes. Both the low beam and high beam are both on. The projector is bihalogen so it pulls the shield Down on the low beam to give you more light on top of the 9005 high beam bulb.

Fun fact if you have the factory fogs you will loose them when in high beam mode unless you just "flashing" the high beams (pull the lever toward you) if you push the lever to keep the high beams on the factory wiring kills power to the fogs completely. And then turns them back on when out of locked high beam mode.

actually the projector headlights have a shutter that blocks the lower part to keep from blinding oncoming traffic, the solenoid lowers the shutter for full output and the halogen hi-beam bulb also illuminates

So how can I keep that solenoid or flap open or allowing the high beam amount of light out of the projector when I'm on on
Low beam

U don't want that. U will blind everyone. That's why they have a low beam and high beam. If you want more lighting throw on a light bar with a switch that u can turn on and off when you choose but keep the low beam normal for regular driving and for others.

Totally awesome but not something u leave on in the city. Ever other car I had I just get hid Low beam and fog lights if applicable and then I never complain. But the ram low beam projectors are a disappointment.

The hid lows are brighter but are aimed just a little low... guess I'm gonna have to level it now

If you really, really, really want to operate the shield manually you can run a switch to it directly. I believe its the yellow or green wire.
But it will be blinding.

you more than likely would get pulled over if did that modification to the projector, you would blind every vehicle coming towards you

Fun fact...all cars do this...and have for years. Unless you hack the fogs to stay on with the highs.

U really want to say that every car does it? Seems like kind of a blanketed statement. I for one can tell you for sure that my factory fogs on my 1987 Trans Am do NOT deactivate with the high beam engaged. Or a 96 olds cutlass.

Also the fogs on our rams only cuts out with the high beams locked to an on position. I can hold my high beams on (pulling the lever toward you) and have all high beams activated with the bixenon fogs, low beams and high beams plus my two 42" LED light bars.
