Well jsut got word back from the dealer. Seems my worst fear has been realized. The evaporator under the dash is shot. Fanfreakingtastic! So anyone done this repair before??? What kind of difficulty scale are we looking at??? I know I have to pull the dash. Well the Dealer wants almost a grand to do it. Yea fark that. I'll go without before I do that. So any ideas what I could do this for??? I should probably dot he heater core while I'm in there. Thoughts opinions??? If I do this I'll do a whole writeup.

Bucket of ice, and one of the fans that plugs into the cig lighter, should be good to go.

I had to pull the dash in my S10 to change a leaking heater core. I will NEVER pull another dash again.

I've heard it's a pita then I've heard it's not that big of a deal. Once it cools off, I've got to pull mine to swap the heater core. If you do decide to do it, I'd go ahead and do it while you're in there. Parts are gonna run you around $200 for both

There's a note on them at work saying "replacement for this application may require considerable time, specialty tools, and training"

Special tool is a hammer, special training is how to swing that sob in a violent way, considerable time is depending on the hammer.

Yea I was looking at that. I kinda figured I would go ahead and do the heater core while I was int here. Only want to pull the dash once. Only tool I seen that I may not have is the AC line disconnect. But from what I'm seeing is that it is just a fuel line disconnect tool. So I dunno. I want my dam AC back but do I really want the headache???? I dunno. Been reading the service manual and it's just a lot of parts to take off and label.

Same here. Just looks like more of a pain pulling everything and keeping it in order than being difficult

^^^Thats the plan. Roll of masking tape and a sharpie plus some baggies to hold screws. Already had a buddy offer to help.

Power inverter
Portable ac unit in the back seat/ or window unit in a rear slider.

What do you mean??? They notorious for going bad? Im half way through and have an evap on the way. What makes them different?

A great number of evap and heater cores don't fit correctly or are of inferior quality. Not to say the one you're getting will be but based on my personal experience, I'll only install OEM cores because I don't want to do the job twice.

I agree with not having to do it twice. So far everything fits like a glove. We will see tomorrow when the new evap comes in. Really not a hard job if I say so myself. Had the dash out in a couple hours. I would be buttoning it all up now if the store had an evap.

Where'd you order the evaporator core from?
