Alright so I have a 2002 1500 with the evic in it. When I bought the truck 2 years ago it wasn't working and knew this before hand since it was my grandparents truck before I bought it from them. I went to the local stealership and ordered a new one, when I pick up the part they got me the otis and not the evic. When they ram the parts number it still comes up as an otis. My question is do they still make the evic for the 02-05 rams or am I sol? Or can I get one out of a grand cherokee?

Yes, they still make them for the 02-05 Ram's but they aren't cheap. Sometimes you can get lucky and find one on eBay. The one from the Jeep won't work in our Rams.

Absolutely. You can tell the EVIC's because the words are written on the buttons instead of below. The bad part is they look EXACTLY like the ones out of the Cherokee.

I have a 2002 with the information center but it doesn't have the home link ( garage door openers) buttons. Are there any other differences between units with and without those buttons? Does it require special wiring to have the one with those buttons?

There's no difference in wiring, if your vehicle already has one you should be able to put in any of either ones. The one I have pictured above is the EVIC, it's the most expensive and offers the most features. They are a lot harder to come by but usually sell for $100-$150 on eBay. The one you have (w/o Homelink) and the one above it (with Homelink) are OTIS's. You can find an OTIS with Homelink on eBay for your vehicle for about $40. I know because I just sold one a couple of weeks ago.

Ah you mean the trip computer? It does mpg and trip computer and compass?

The 4th gen evic does a whole bunch of things setting alot of opinions plus compass, gauges, mpg, plus more.

Alright guys here is what I found out. Chrysler does not make them anymore because the manufacturer that built them went under. So I'm either stuck with the otis or does anybody know if you can rebuild them?
