Excessive camshaft wear on 2007 Ram 4.7.

Not just on the lobe itself. But around circumference of the camshaft for all the cylinders. Is this normal? Do I just need to replace camshaft and lifters? Some thinks its a lack of lubrication problem. Truck has 87,000 miles. And is very clean.

If you are talking noticeable grooves on a cam with that few miles,, my opinion, that's not normal wear, unless it ran low on oil for a long time in between oil changes. My 200k mile camshafts had little noticeable difference across the surface.

For the price of camshaft, lifters and potentially needing machine shop valve guide work, when I did the head gaskets on my 4.7, I bought assembled heads from JEGS with new camshafts, lifters and rockers for less money.

I did the timing set while I had it tore down.
