I haven't ever swapped a muffler out on a vehicle so it will be new to me. I'm planning on getting the Magnaflow 12278 for my 2014 Ram 1500. I chose it because the in and out pipe specs are the same as the OEM. My question is, if it the specs are the same will I need some sort of sleeves to go over the connections, or will it just slip in like the OEM?

I would assume it should just plop right in, but I could be wrong and would like some verification from people with more experience. Thanks in advance!

If it is the exact same length and has a hanger on it yes it will work. Otherwise you will need a section of exhaust pipe to make up the difference for the long oem muffler.

Wow I didn't even think about that! Do they sell them with the extra piping + hangers on them? I can't find anything other than the stock photos of them, which are ONLY of the muffler itself.

I do have the dual tips. I can't bring myself to pay double the cost of the muffler itself just for the extra piping. I'll probably get some quotes at the local muffler shops to see if this will be a viable option.

The whole point of the mufflex kit is you can install it in your driveway. One thing to keep in mind is the mufflex replaces stainless with stainless. There isn't a single shop that carries stainless tubing around me, so watch that when you get quotes.

I ordered my muffler on Wednesday and it should be here by the end of the day tomorrow. I'll try to get it put in Monday after work. I'll also try to take some pictures.

I Just put on the same muffler...cost me $339 total.
I purchased the muffler seperate $154w/tax
Thats muffler, two foot long Stainless Steel 2.25" extentions ,2 hangers and 2 10" or so pcs to remove resonators + everthing welded.
The factory outlets were like 5" apart on center the magnaflows are 4" apart on center so one needed a little bending.
Thats Canadian $$
Another shop wanted $520 for the same job.
Still thought it pricey...but was my birthday present from the wife.:favorites13:

I got my muffler installed over the weekend. I paid 127 and some change to have it shipped to the house. I bought 3 clamps and two 18" sections of 2.25" pipe which I cut to the needed size which altogether cost a little less than $30.

I went to my uncle's shop since he had a lift and we were able to get the OEM muffler removed pretty easily. The hardest part was getting the rubber keepers off of the hangers. The exit pipes didn't line up exactly right, but there was enough play in the pipes that we could weld them and have the exhaust pipes end up where they were they needed to be. Clamped the muffler and then welded the extra section to the existing section and voila!

It took about 30 minutes altogether which wasn't bad at all.

I got a couple of videos so you can hear what it sounds like inside the cab. It's not that bad at all considering the wind is able to almost drown it out.
