I purchased my 2015 Ram Big Horn with an exhaust modification done before I took ownership. I noticed that my left tailpipe hangs 1/2”-3/4” lower (than the right) and it makes me crazy. I am going to have it brought up to match level.

Additionally, the previous owner extended the tail pipes to show more tailpipe “reveal” extending beyond the bumper. Here’s my questions:

1. By bringing them level, am I risking any quirkinesses with the vehicle not liking the change and notifying me of an emissions concern?

2. While I am at the shop, should I consider recessing them back to OEM spec? Can this change throw vehicle emissions reading off?

3. Anybody think showing off a little more tail [pipe] looks better than OEM?

Thanks!

1. No effects from the catalytic converters back.
2. There are swivel “clamps” for the tailpipes, just loosen them up and align yourself. Bend the hanging rods if it's a left/right problem. The previous owner either had a muffler put on or deleted it completely and welded/clamped in a section of pipe too long.
3. Speculative

Does NC do emissions testing now? They used to do only a visual check. I would do what Tim said and realign them yourself and not worry about anything else. If it ain't broke don't fix it.

Anything after the catalytic converter, has NOTHING to do with emissions. Mufflers only purpose is sound control. Tip position is only cosmetic. Using a 13MM Socket, or wrench, loosen up the exhaust ball clamp at the tip. Position it as you see fit, and tighten it down. Very easy!

Thanks everyone!

I took it over to the local muffler shop before I saw these posts. Y’all are correct, single bolt and that allowed the right, left, up, down movement to the pipe.

The tech brought it level. While it was up on the rack, learned it is a Flowmaster 50 series muffler and he was impressed with the install (all good info.).

As we were looking he noticed one part in the assembly that he didn’t like, and with a bolt cut and mostly a some elbow grease, he was able to easily bring the exhaust system forward (a little bit of pry bar and a clamp later) and my tailpipes are now back to the OEM spec.

Much happier - well worth the $30.

Btw, @tidefan1967 SC (near Charlotte) doesn’t require an annual safety and emissions inspection. There is an ordinance that requires vehicles have a muffler. Don’t know that I’d ever do the delete, just happy it’s aligned and recessed back to the proper position.
