I was wondering, has anybody experienced better performance running E-85 compared with 91 or 87? I recently changed from 87 to 91 and noticed better idle sound and response. I hear you get less fuel mileage but what about better power?

I don't think a n/a motor gets much more power. Maybe with some custom tunes you can. With forced induction/high compression is where e85 really shines.

You sit are correct. Also, e85 is incredibly inconsistent. Most of the high boost/high power guys carry around test kits with them when they fill up just to see what they're actually getting. Can be a major pita..

We used it in racing applications, even on the NOS side...did good, runs cool. But for daily car, stick with regular or 10%.

I ran it in my bike for a bit. On motor it only picked up 3hp on that day...with that tank full. On spray it was cooler and on the safe side (hard to detonate) ...but as stated, TERRIBLY inconsistant. E85 in my area can be anywhere from 60 to 95. And if you're not constantly correcting your tune...you can lose HP. I went back to 93 pump.

W/O a tune, you are wasting your money on 91 octane as well. Read your manual. Use what's recommended.

Disagree on this one. Hand calculated mileage for me is up 1-1.5 mpg with 91.

I'm not trying to sound sarcastic, but is the 1-1.5mpg worth the extra (.50 in my area) price per gallon?

$0.20 more per gallon here and I usually don't run her dry so for me its a couple bucks per tank...plus peace of mind. And no offense taken. :)

The only reason better fuel mileage is obtained for me when using 91 is because it has no ethanol. It is not worth 60 cents more though.

If mid grade is recomended for our engines, what is the potential for causing damage or other problems if using 91-93 on a regular basis?

I considered switching to premium. It's $0.40/reg more than regular down here, which on an average week would mean about $8.00 more per fill up...if in a perfect world, I actually picked up 25.5 miles per fill up using premium, it still wouldn't justify spending the extra, as with using regular I'd be paying almost $3.00 less per fill up to go the same distance.

I use 93 just cause the last truck seemed to like it more so that's all I use(unless the station is out of it) on this one

It won't. Some feel theirs runs better on 91 than the 89, but mine runs same both ways. It could also depend on altitude, etc, where one lives.

It's not as bad as the guys that run 87 because it 'cost more' than 89 is that kills me :D
