Hey guys new to this site. Just bought a 2008 Ram 1500 a couple weeks ago. I want to sand the frame down and redo it/ I have been contemplating repainting it or using Herculiner. What do you guys think or recommend? I also want to do the rockers and up to the body line with the Herculiner. The truck is white.

If doing the frame, there is only one thing to use POR-15. All you need to do is powerwash off loose dirt, then start painting. It is expensive, but a little goes far. This is the stuff they use on boats. There also is a UV top coat, but you have to put it on within a specified time because once POR-15 dries, it doesn't come off (without years in salt water).

When I was in the jeep community many members in my club did frame off restorations, and used it on their frames. They even left the frame out unpainted in the rain and snow before so there was more rust, as it works even better on rust.

Don't use POR-15 on anything other than the underbody and frame.

I was thinking of doing that to my truck and the girlfriends Envoy. My question is do you have to use the UV top coat if it is just on the frame under the truck where nobody will see it?

I dont think you have to. Only places that will see sun.

Unless you are planning on spending some time upside down LOL :roflsquared:

No not at all :roflsquared: The previuos owner had ziebart put on the fram when they bought it new and I'm the second owner. It's starting to chip can I place the POR-15 over top of places it hasn't chipped off at? Not really concerned if it isn't smooth

I have been wanting to do this to my truck for sometime now. My issue is taking the bed off the truck to do it, have no equipment for that. But eventually somehow it will get done. My two products I have been looking at was either POR-15 for another product called Chassis Saver.

I would get back to metal. Take a paint brush and paint away.

Ewc88. You can just do it bed on. You will get most of the surfaces anyways. Then someday, do the rest with the bed off.
